ONTARIO150 GRANT SUPPORTS TUCKER HOUSE RENOVATIONS

Tucker House Renewal Centre held an open house last week, to show the com- munity the property and infrastructure upgrades undertaken after receiving a grant. Tucker House Renewal Centre, a historic site in Rockland known for its sustainability programs, received a $174,000 Ontario150 Community Capital Grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation in 2017. This grant sup- ported updates to electrical and fire alarm systems, a new range hood to increase cooking capacity and repairs to the founda- tion of the building and its furnace room. This work was done in order to increase its accessibility to educational retreats, school programs and community groups, all the while ensuring to preserve the site’s Confederation-era heritage and nature trail system. Funds will also be used to install bilingual signage throughout the trail system. Tucker House Renewal Centre boasts 30 acres in Clarence-Rockland. “This funding directly assists us to expand community use and programs, encouraging people of all ages to support a healthy and sustainable environment, said Diana Brushey, Executive Director of Tucker House. “We are proud to be a youth-friendly environmental and cultural space where local and regional children and youth can grow as eco-citizens.” Clarence-Rockland residents, as well as
