POOR HUNTING HABITS Two Ottawa hunters, Francis Laplante and Patrick Yurkowski, pled guilty, February 22, in Ottawa provincial court, to unlawful discharge of a firearm without reasonable consideration for property. On November 8, 2017, the pair trespassed on a Navan farm property. Laplante shot and killed two pet pot- bellied pigs in the front yard of the residence, thinking they were wild boars. Laplante was fined $1500 and had his hunting licence privilege suspended for a year. Yurkowski, who report- edly brought Laplante to the property, pointed out the pigs to him, helped him load the pigs and drive away, was fined $500. He had his hunting licence privi- lege suspended for eight months. Both men received suspended sentences for trespass and must complete the Ontario hunter education program before they can apply for hunting licences again. – Gregg Chamberlain
