This reflects SDSU’s broader efforts to reach South Dakotans across the state. As SDSU President Barry H. Dunn explains, “SDSU has a responsibility to its land-grant mission of providing the benefits of higher education to those who seek it, and the more we can connect with South Dakota, the more positively they view our academic excellence, research, workforce development and impact on communities.” Building relationships creates trust and lays the foundation for students, industries and leaders to shape a stronger future. When South Dakota students choose to earn their degree from SDSU, those connections can extend beyond graduation with more than 73% of them going on to live and work in our state, directly pouring into its economy. That is the greater impact of SDSU: preparing people to meet the needs of today while building the pipeline for the needs of tomorrow, ultimately helping build a Greater SDState.
Responding to workforce needs in the state As the largest medical hub in the state, Sioux Falls houses major corporate headquarters and large-scale regional facilities, supporting a massive portion of the state’s clinical and administrative medical employment. A dominant market like this needs a strong workforce. SDSU is answering the need. SDSU leads the Regental system in health care degrees and helps students prepare for and find job opportunities in this high-demand field. The SDSU Metro Center builds on the work already underway, however, the impact doesn’t stop there. SDSU supports workforces across a multitude of industries in Sioux Falls and greater South Dakota, including business, engineering, education, agriculture and more. SDSU is committed to integrating future leaders into these industries by preparing them to lead a life of impact: finding solutions across industries, advancing knowledge and transforming lives throughout the world. Impact starts with SDSU SDSU focuses on building connections first. This starts at the middle and high school levels, providing students with access to postsecondary education regardless of financial situation and offering exploration opportunities to help students envision their future on a college campus.
