The Prescott-Russell Community Development Corp. (PRCDC) was set up in the region as part of the Community Futu- res movement during the first term of the Mulroney Progressive Conservative federal government and continues to receive support funding through Industry Canada as part of the federal economic development program. The focus of Community Futures is to help stimulate and support local economic development through a small business loans program that deals with business proposals too small for standard banks and the Federal Business Development Bank (FBDB) to consider for their loan departments, along with advisory support programs on developing and maintaining a business plan, and either lobbying for local development or serving as a venture capi- tal partner on projects that enhance opportunities for economic development in the region. Grants are approved on a first-come, first-served basis. Successful grant applicants must credit the SNC whenever and wherever possible for the grant sup- port, provide a media release announcing the grant approval for the project, and provide SNC later with copies of any promotional material, press coverage, and a report on workshop or seminar attendance and any related photos about the project or program for SNC archives and use on the agency’s own website. André Martel takes over as chair for the regional economic development agency for its 2012-2013 fiscal year of operations. For- mer chair Estelle Patenaude is stepping down after holding the position for the past six years. “The PRCDC will continue, just like in the past, to make fair, careful and enlightenedinterventionsforthebetterment of our communities and businesses in the Prescott-Russell region,” stated Martel in a press release. Martel’s appointment to the chair was confirmed during the Prescott-Russell Community Development Corp. (PRCDC) annual general meeting March 29 in Casselman. Also during the meeting Gilles Lahaie was re-elected as vice-chairman and Sylvain Charlebois as secretary-treasurer for the PRCDC. During her final year-end report to the board, Patenaude highlighted some of the recent accomplishments of the PRCDC. Among them was the provision of Local farming outfits with special education programs on agriculture and the environment might be able to get a little help with their project costs. The South Nation Conservation Authority (SNC) has $500 grants available through its Clean Water Committee for any agro-environmental outreach and education projects scheduled for communities in the South Nation River watershed region before the end of this year. Eligible projects can include guest spea- ker expenses, costs related to setting up workshops, organizing tours, or presenting local demonstrations of farming practices
