Proceed with caution: City tells pedestrians

THEFT, BREACH Cory Sabourin, 35 of Cornwall, was arrested on December 27 and charged with theft under $5000 and breach of an undertaking for being at a specific store despite being on conditions not to and failing to keep the peace. The man who was still in the area was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. BREACH Carl Beckstead, 62 of Cornwall, was arrested on December 27 and charged with breaching his recognizance for having consumed alcohol outside his residence. Po- lice took him into custody and charged him accordingly. He was then held for a bail hearing. A 19-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on December 28 and charged with breaching his youth probation order for being out past curfew, associating with someone known to have a criminal record and failing to keep the peace. His name was not released as the probation order stems from incidents when the man was a youth. Amanda Piotrowski, 21 of Cornwall, was arrested on December 29 and charged with breaching an undertaking for having consumed alcohol and failing to keep the peace. She was charged accordingly and later released with a court date of February 6, 2014. ASSAULT A 58-year-old Cornwall woman was arrested on December 28 and charged with assault. Her name was not released as it might identify the victim in the matter. A 12-year-old Cornwall youth was arrested on December 28 and charged with as- sault with a weapon, threats, weapons dangerous and pointing a firearm. His name was not released as per the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. PERSONATION, OBSTRUCT POLICE Sasha Knox, 25 of Long Sault, was arrested on December 29 and charged with personation and obstruct police. She was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released with a court date of January 20.. CRIMINAL HARASSMENT A 28-year-old Long Sault man was arrested on December 29 and charged with criminal harassment. His name was not released as it might identify the victim in the matter. BREACH A 29-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on December 30 and charged with breaching his undertaking for having communicated with his ex-girlfriend despite being on conditions not to and for failing to keep the peace. The man was then transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it might identify the victim in the matter. THEFT UNDER, BREACH Christina Lafrance, 30 of Cornwall, was arrested on December 31 and charged with theft under $5000, breach of recognizance for being out without her surety and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. During the police investiga- tion, the woman was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. Steven Doychak, 41 of Cornwall, was arrested on December 31 and charged with breaching a recognizance for being out past curfew and for having consumed al- cohol. The man was transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing. Mathiew Labrecque, 22 of Cornwall, was arrested on January 2 and charged with breaching his probation order for failing to keep the peace, failing to notify a change of address and not abiding by a curfew. He was taken into custody, charged accord- ingly and held for a bail hearing. WARRANT Kevin Greer, 29 of Cornwall, was arrested on December 29 on the strength of an outstanding bench warrant for failing to attend court in 2009. Many sidewalk sections have not been cleared and cannot be cleared using stan- dard sidewalk snow removal equipment. Therefore snow and ice removal on side- walks that have not been cleared can only continue when warmer weather conditions allow use of standard equipment. Where

Snow removal operations on Cornwall’s streets, boulevards and sidewalks are con- tinuing. However, due to the large accumulation of snow and ice received in the past couple weeks, combined with the effects of the re- cent deep freeze-thaw cycles and rainfall activity, these oper- ations are progress- ing slowly. “Like many other Ontario cities, we are expe- riencing challenges as the weather has been very change- able and demand- ing,” said Bill de Wit, Division Manager for the Municipal Works. “We want to thank all motorists and pedestrians for their patience and understanding as we continue our snow removal efforts.” Provided that additional snowfall is not received in the immediate future, City crews and contractors will continue to work dur- ing the day and night removing snow to ad- dress line of sight issues and snow storage
