Leadership in Action - English - 201907

Paulette and I still do the Leadership Connection call every week to this day – only now it’s an international weekly event. Enormous effort and commitment go into this weekly event and the recordings are there for everyone on any team in any country to listen to. Hundreds of Marketing Executives listen live each week and I suspect more than a thousand tune in and listen later. We’ve been able to assist and shape more people than we can ever know without it costing us at all. This is the abundance mentality in action.

I did. It wouldn’t affect me financially whether or not the Nordlunds enrolled, but I knew Melaleuca would change Tim and Michelle’s life and I knew that their enrollment would benefit Melaleuca overall. So why wouldn’t I help out? Tim and Michelle enrolled and they are now Executive Directors 9! Over the last two decades, I’ve asked the Nordlunds in Minnesota, the Cheveries, who live in Boston, and the Moscas, who lived in Toronto, to help

me with presentations, trainings, and in-homes with some of my personals. They’ve been happy to help every time! What goes around comes around. Those who have the scarcity mentality believe that victory must come – even at the

An abundance mentality: when people are genuinely happy at the successes of others, the pie gets larger. – Stephen Covey

When you think about it, I guess in the simplest terms, the opposite of the abundance mentality would be the scarcity mindset, which is the belief that there will never be enough –

whether it’s money, food, time, or energy – and as a result, your actions and thoughts stem from a place of lack. It’s the belief that for someone to win, someone else has to lose. Instead of believing that you have enough and there is plenty to go around, you cling to everything you have out of fear of coming up short. A scarcity mindset is apparent in thoughts like, “I don’t have time to help anyone outside my organization” or “Why would I train another team?” Another benefit of the abundance mentality is what I call the bounce-back effect. As you build your organization and help others reach their goals who aren’t on your team, in your town, city, state, or even country, the folks who you have helped are willing to help you with your folks when you can’t be there. Again, everything duplicates. This is one of the solid principles that makes Melaleuca different and so attractive to

expense of someone else. Here at Melaleuca, we understand that our success comes by helping others reach their goals – not only our personals or the chosen few, but everyone. Over the years, I’ve noticed there are certain character traits of those who have the abundance mentality: vision, unselfishness, kindness, team spirit, generosity, humility, and gratitude. If you ask me, that may be the ideal description of the qualities we are looking for in our next leader. At the end of the day, I guess we can all agree that Melaleuca is a different kind of company. It has been built for the last 33 years on many solid principles that will always stand the test of time. The abundance mentality is one of these solid principles. I hope you recognize – like I did – the value of this principle and discover that it is worthy of our time. When you completely understand the Melaleuca Mission Statement and what it means, you’ll begin to see how it directs the company and each of us to operate on solid principles. None of us would want it any other way! I am blessed to have found Melaleuca when I did 27 years ago. When you truly understand the Mission Statement and what it means, you’ve got it! KEEP DREAMING. LIVES CHANGE HERE. – ED BESTOSO

people who have been in other types of businesses. It is truly special. Back in 1999, National Director Paulette Cheverie and National Director 3 Maria Mosca asked me to help out their team by flying out to Minnesota and presenting to a couple named Tim and Michelle Nordlunds. If they enrolled, they’d be in my sixth generation so I wouldn’t gain anything from their enrollment – I’d be out a plane ticket and a day or two of travel. My business sense questioned the value of going to Minnesota, but my abundance mentality said to do it and
