LETTER IN THE MAIL I n the last week of Spring term, all 3 Reception Classes and Nursery walked out of school, walked down Abbey Road and posted very special letters! In EYFS, our topic this half term has been ‘Dinosaurs’. We have had so much fun finding out about many different types of dinosaurs. We have learnt about when they lived and what they ate. We learnt about whether they were herbivores, carnivores or omnivores. During our topic, we have watched Andy Day on Cbeebies, who magically goes back in time to the time of the dinosaurs! We thought that Andy would be really interested to know what we have been up to, so our WOW write was to write a letter to him to let him know all of the many facts we have learnt about dinosaurs! It might help him in his research. We collated all of our letters to him, and arranged to go to the Post Office to post it through the letter box. A few days before we posted our letter, we found out about what happens to letters when they are posted through a letter box. We found out about a Post Office sorting office, and how they use a machine to scan the post code to find out where in the country —or the world—it should be sent to. Prior to our walk, we talked about lots of buildings we know in our local area. We compared pictures of how Abbey Road looks now, to how it looked over 100 years ago! (1913) We were able to spot lots of differences— there were no cars on the road, the windows of the houses looked different and there weren't any lampposts or telegraph poles! When we walked down Abbey Road to the Post Office, we were able to spot lots of buildings we were familiar with. We noticed road signs and markings that we were able to talk about and understand why they were there.
