&/#3&'r#3*&'4 COUNCIL MEETING SHIFTS Champlain Township council will have its regular meetings once a month, on the second Thursday instead of the second Tuesday, starting in 2020. The committee of the whole mee- tings, if they are on the schedule, will still take place on Tuesday, the week before the regular council session. The change from Tuesday to Thursday for the regular meetings is to allow staff extra time for any detailed follow-up reports for council from committee of the whole business.– Gregg Chamberlain LABOUR STUDY The consultant firm MDB Insight has been contracted to do a study for the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, on the labour shortage issue for the Prescott-Russell region. An Ontario Labour Market Partnerships program grant will fund the study. The report is due at the end of Decem- ber.– Gregg Chamberlain FAKE OPP SCAM A phone scam is making its way through Eastern Ontario with the con artist pretending to be an OPP officer calling victims about “fraudulent accounts” in their name. A call-spoofing program makes any call display message read as either “Ontario Provincial Police” or the OPP non-emergency 1-888 number. The scammer asks for personal infor- mation, including bank account and social insurance numbers. The OPP warn that they are not doing phone call surveys. MERIT AWARD Naomi Gadbois, a teacher at Pleasant Corners Public School in Vankleek Hill, is one of seven employees with the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) to be nominated for the 2019 UCDSB Director’s Award of Merit. Gadbois and the other six nominees will receive their award certificates during the June 2020 UCDSB board Celebration Night event.– Gregg Chamberlain

—photo Gregg Chamberlain

The ice is starting to form along the shoreline of the Ottawa River, which is an incentive for a contractor crew working at the L’Orignal Marina to get their task done quick. The marina is closed for the winter now and the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans is taking advantage of the quiet time and mostly ice-free conditions for repair work on the boat ramp. —photo Gregg Chamberlain
