Hcp, Oaks Stakes, Australian Cup (3 in a row), VATC Oakleigh Plate, Caulfield Stakes, Toorak Hcp, SAJC Goodwood Hcp, AJC Oaks among other feature races. Significantly, Pat will be best remembered for his connection with outstanding juvenile and sprinter/miler, Vain . Trained by his former master in Jim Moloney, Hyland would ride Vain to victory in the 1968 VRC Maribyrnong Plate, 1969 VRC Sires Produce Stakes, STC Golden Slipper Stakes, AJC Sires Produce Stakes and Champagne Stakes, VATC Caulfield Guineas as well as the VRC Craven A Stakes, Linlithgow Stakes and George Adams Hcp during the 1969 Melbourne Cup Carnival. Vain was the sprint sensation of the time and was a prolific sire standing at Widden Stud, NSW securing the 1983 Leading Australian Sire title. As a trainer, Pat tasted group one success early in his career when training the talented filly Saleous to win the 1995 VRC Wakeful – Oaks Stakes double as well as the 1996 STC Vinery Stakes (G1). It is believed he was one of only three people to both ride and train a VRC Oaks winner. Bill Foulsham and Maurice McCarten being the other two. Pat would also train Group One winners: Bonaria (2014) - VRC Empire Rose Stakes (G1); Zarita (2008) - SAJC Derby (G1) and SAJC Australasian Oaks (G1) and French Clock (1999) - SAJC Goodwood Hcp (G1). He also showed his versatility training the well performed jumper in Best Endeavours , who secured among other victories the 1996 VRC Grand National Steeplechase. In recent years Pat teamed up with son Chris to form a formidable training partnership training out of Cranbourne and Clyde. The VRC wishes Pat every success in retirement with his wife Maree and family of six children. Namely; Paul, Matthew, Chris, Joanne, Samuel and Patrick. And in addition his 17 grand-children: Isabel, James, Ruby, Harry, Thomas, Madeline, Olivia, Saacha, Nick, Luca, Mara, Georgia, Marlee, Leila, Will, Charlotte and Matilda.
