Ottawa | Rumbling thunder Saturday night rang a death-knell on any hopes the Toronto Raiders might have had of staying in the NFC playoffs. The Ottawa Invaders buried the Raiders’ dreams of victory at Carleton University’s Keith Harris Stadium field over the August long weekend. The Invaders slammed the Raiders 47-14 with Jeff Morris booting over five conver- sion kicks for the home team. The Saturday

Invaders ahead again with another Morris conversion kick to finish the first quarter score at 14-7 Ottawa. Second quarter be- longed to the Invaders with Matt Harmer snagging a pass from Jeff Hildreth for 22 yards and another touchdown with Morris converting the score to 21-7 Ottawa. After the half-time break, Allens Pierre Jr. pulled off an 80-yard interception return for Ottawa, with Morris getting the conversion once more, and leaving the score 28-14 In- vaders. another point on the conversion to put the score at 28-14. Wendell Beloney, picking it up from Hildreth, punched up the Ottawa points total to 34-14 to finish the quarter. Fourth and final quarter belonged to the Invaders with touchedowns from Adam Gourgon on an eight-yard run and James Dooley sprinting for one yard. Morris got a successful conversion on Gourgon’s TD with the game finishing at 47-14 for Ottawa. In other NFC quarter-final games the Toronto Titans sank the Sudbury Spar- tans 41-6, the Outlaws roped the Oakville Longhorns 43-13, and the Sarnia Imperials crowned the Sault Ste. Marie Steelers 28-2.
