Physical Therapy for Low Back Pain Studies show that 80% of people in the United States report having low back pain at some point in their lives. In most cases, low back pain is mild. For some people, back pain can return or hang on, leading to a decrease in quality of life or even to disability. The origin of low back pain can be associated with repetitive movements, muscular asymmetries or sedentary positions. These medical diagnoses include herniated disks, stenosis, “pinched” nerves or sciatica. A general rule of thumb to help prevent low back pain is to keep your abdominals strong to stabilize the lumbar spine, and to keep your hamstring stretched to prevent excessive pull on the pelvis. If you are experiencing low back pain, studies show that seeing a physical therapy within 14 days of onset will lead to the best outcomes and return to quality of life.
