Pilot project for new roadside test device

Police can do on-the-spot tests of anyone suspected of drunk driving. Now the same may be true for anyone who smoked a bit of marijuana or sampled some other drug before getting behind the wheel of a car or truck. The OPP and several other police forces across Canada are taking part in a pilot project to test the effectiveness and efficiency of a new piece of technology designed to determine if someone has taken any drugs before or while they are driving a vehicle. Results of the project will determine which of two new drug-test roadside screening devices will become standard issue for police doing highway patrols and counterattack check stops. Part of the purpose of the pilot project is to test the devices under various weather conditions. The new equipment is called an oral fluid screening device (OFSD). The device checks a saliva sample for the presence of marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, and various opiods like heroin. Police forces taking part in the pilot project will have training for their officers in how to use both of the screening devices being tested. Officers will use the devices during regular shift sessions with subjects, both drivers and passengers, who are suspected

Le temps des Fêtes est à nos portes et nos horaires sont chamboulés par le magasinage et la préparation de réceptions ou de déplacements pour voir la famille. La PPO rappelle aux gens de rester vigi- lants malgré toutes ces distractions et de verrouiller nos véhicules afin de ne pas devenir la proie des voleurs. Sous le programme Lock It OR Lose It , des véhicules stationnés seront examinés pour confirmer s’ils sont bel et bien verrouillés et qu’aucun article de valeur ne soit à port ée de vue. Unmémo sera apposé sur les véhicules, mentionnant les mesures de sécurité qui ont été ignor ées et quelques astuces. En prenant de simples précautions, comme par exemple s’assurer que toutes les portières soient verrouillées et que tous les articles se retrouvent dans le coffre arrière et non pas sur les sièges arrière, les gens peuvent éviter d’être victime de vol.
