An Independent Srndy is a course which is initi­ ated by the student, who then works indepe ndentl y toward the goals and objectives outlined by the professor on the Arranged Course form. Multiple Degree The programs in Talbot School of Theoloi:.,,y are accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS). ATS requires that a minimum of SO% of coursework in Talbot's degree programs be taken in residency (i.e., nm trans­ ferred in nor shared with any other program). (ATS Standards, 1998) Advanced Standing Accepted/admitted applicants who have taken undergraduate courses in biblical or rheological studies ma y request review for Advanced Standing credit based on their collegiate work. Grant­ in g advanced standing credit requires faculty approval based on parallel course content. Proof of competency in the subject area or ev idence of how the course content has been used since taking the course is required. In order char the applicant's proficiencv in Eng­ lish may be determined, the appli­ cant muse cake the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) as administered by the Educa­ tional Testing Service at the near­ est overseas examination center. The minimum score for admission is a total of 550 paper/213 com­ puter for the graduate student and 600 paper/2S0 computer for doc­ toral smdents (and a score of 55 or above fur the three sections). Pref­ erence in admission will be given co those who score 600 paper/250 computer or over on TOEFL and 40 or over on TWE. Those scoring between 580 paper/2~7 computer and S99 paper/248 computer on TOEFL will be assessed on a case by case basis.
