OBJECTIVES

C. Admission Procedure I. The applit-ant ·s potential to compete successfully in a grad uate prof_'T:lm will be determined bv the Master of Arts Guidance Co~mic­ ree, which will interview each appli­ cant and evaluate all credentials. 2. Each approved applicant will be enrolled tentativel y in the Master of Arts in Ministry program until 32 units have b een com­ pleted , of which 24 must be in core courses as described below.

The following chart presents che curriculum sequence for students who wi ll be ·'full-cime" in rhe pro­ gram. Swdents who will be enrol led on a "half-rime" basis should plan to complete eight units each semester. normally raking courses indit-aced as "first year" before those in che "sec­ ond year" group. The Master of Arts in Ministry is designed for indi vid ual s who have been in ministry for a signifi­ cant number of years and have nor had the opportu nity to earn a bac­ ca laureate degree. Graduate level trainin g is prov ided in several essential aspects of professional ministry in order co enhance signifi­ can tl y the effectiveness of partici­ pari ng ministers. In establishing this program , the seminary i; endeavor ing to address specific needs of the C hurch as it functions in the major ethnic communities within the Southern California area. The two primary foci of che pro­ f_'fam are bibli cal and pract ic-al stud­ ies. The biblical emphasis provides an increased breadth in knowledge of che content of che Word of God, including it, background and sound principles of literary interpretation. Practical swdies concentrate on the enhancemenr of ministry and com­ munication skills. 'T·he goal of both e mphases is improved expertise in a ministry of the Word as it relates to the daily lives of people and their eternal destiny. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS A. Personal Qualifications I. Comp let io n of five yea rs in ministry and presently on a church staff in an official capacity. 2. Participation in the l\,lascer of Arts program in Ministry pre­ sumes a significant level of min­ istry experience and personal mat­ uration. T he program 's intent is to provide an option for chose who desire to enhance their ministry but w hose c ircumstances of age and finances make a return co a baccalaureate program detrimental to their ongoing ch urch ministry. 3 . App li cants usuall y will nut have the B .A. or equivalent degree. Talbot offers other pro­ grams for applicants who have the baccalaureate degree . 4. Three references are required: c hur c h or denomina­ tional endorsement : personal friend: and ministry co lleague (or employer if c urrentl y employed outside the c hurc h). B. Academic Qualifications I. Equivalency of rwo yea rs of collegiate level srudies. 2. Proficiency in E n g li sh lang uage.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

A. Satisfactorily complete 64 semester units as o utlined in the c urriculum . B. Qualify for t-a ndidacy status a t the conclusion of 32 units . At the completion of 32 units, an eval­ u a cion will be made rega rdin g admission co candidacy scarus in the Master of Arts in Ministry pro­ gram. Students with a grade point average of at least 2.50 will rec,-eive candidacy sraws. Sruden~ with a GPA between 2.00 and 2. .'iO will be allowed to compiece an additional 8 units (for a coral of 40) co be cred­ ited toward a cerrifi t-ace in ministry. C. Ac lease 24 units must be rnken at chis seminary. D. Obtain a 2.. 'iO GPA with no g rade below ·'C-" in all courses to be c redited toward g raduation . E. Comp lete the entire pro­ gram in no more than six vea rs . F. Prior co ca ndidac)' status. srndents with a Gl'A below 2.0 are placed on probation and remain on probation as lon g as the sing le semester or c umulative GPA remains below 2.0. After candidacy status is granted, the minimum G PA is adj usted upwa rd to 2.50. wich probat ion ca lculaced accord ­ ing ly. Students on probation are gra nted one semester in which en bring their academic work up to the required level for cont inuance in the seminary. A student t.-annor gradu­ ate while on probation.

The courses specifica ll y iden­ tified by department and number in the c hart be low are req uired in the core c urri culum . In addition. each srndenc muse complete the requirements of one emphasis during the program.
