Brown's Automotive Experts Summer 2019

summer 2019

When my dad, Donald, stepped away from the business and handed things over to Nolan and me, we took a few months to get our footing and decide what we wanted the future of Brown’s Automotive Experts to look like. That transition period was a learning experience for both of us, and we grew stronger because of it. Now that we’ve had the reins for a while, we’re excited to tackle new initiatives. None of these projects is bigger than opening a third location, which I’m thrilled to announce is just around the corner. We’ve toyed with the idea of adding an additional shop for a while now, but we’ve never had the perfect set of circumstances to do so. Recently though, opportunity knocked, and we had to answer the door. An old shop in Rio Rancho went up for sale at a great price. We’d hired Leslie, who excelled from day one and proved she was ready to run a shop of her own. Customer demand was there. These factors all led to a chance we couldn’t pass up. Now, that doesn’t mean it was as a simple process. The old shop was completely gutted. It needed new lifts, new equipment, a new front office, and basically everything you can think of.We had to start looking for the best folks to staff a new location. If the first few months after Dad’s retirement were a crash course in running a business, developing the new location was a graduate program. But despite the expected hiccups, we opened on track on July 15. I’ll be at the new shop often to make sure we hit the ground running. The third Brown’s Automotive Experts shop is located at 2203 Golf Course Rd. NW in Rio Rancho. If you’re a regular customer who happens to live closer to our new location, you’ll be happy to hear of “Our new location will maintain the same standards of both high-quality car care and friendly customer service. If we couldn’t promise that, we’d never have decided to open it.” The Birth of Our New Location How Our Third Shop Came to Be

another project we’ve undertaken. We’re in the process of changing our point-of-sale system — it’s referred to as a “POS,” I kid you not — so that information will be shared between all locations. That means that when you come to the new shop, all of your service history will come with you. Our new location will maintain the same standards of both high-quality car care and friendly customer service. If we couldn’t promise that, we’d never have decided to open it. None of these enhancements would be possible without you, our loyal customers. There’s no possibility of a third shop if the first two shops aren’t busy, but thanks to you, they are.We wouldn’t be anywhere without all of you, let alone where we are today.Thank you all so much. To celebrate the opening, we’ll be running a series of promotions all summer long. As a thank you to our longtime customers, these deals will be available at all of our shops, not just the new one.You can check out our Facebook page (@DonBrownAuto) for a complete list of specials and updates. Again, we are so grateful to you for making us your auto shop.We can’t wait to share the next chapter in the Brown’s Automotive story with you. -Dustin Brown

Hiking With Your Kids

WATCH THEIR WORLD EXPAND WITH EVERY STEP

KEEP SAFETY IN MIND While you’re out on the trail, it’s essential to make sure that both you and your family are safe. Wear breathable, noncotton material and sturdy shoes that don’t expose your toes. It’s important to dress according to the weather. For example, if the day is sunny, wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays and apply plenty of sunscreen on any exposed skin. Bring your kids’ favorite snacks and water bottles for everyone to stay hydrated. It’s crucial that you also bring a fully stocked first-aid kit in case someone is injured on the hike. Starting with one of your local hiking trails can be a rewarding way to spend the day with your kids. You can watch their excitement as they expand their world with new discoveries.

there for your children and encouraging them to ask questions about flowers, bugs, or animals you see on the trail will help them expand their vocabulary and learn how things work. When they learn they can explore independently and ask about the world around them, they’re gaining the confidence to teach themselves. Getting your children to engage in nature while you’re out hiking can be as simple as bringing a magnifying glass along with you. Let your kids look at leaves, rocks, insects, or anything else you might come across on the trail. You can also bring binoculars to help them look at a bird that might be perched a little too high up. Another option is a bug holder to let your kids catch smaller insects, such as grasshoppers or pill bugs, and give them a close-up look. BRINGALONG SOMETOOLS OF DISCOVERY

Hiking has many benefits as a family activity, such as mental health improvement, strengthening your relationships, and experiencing new sights and discoveries together. It’s also great exercise, and you get plenty of quality time, fresh air, and sunshine. Here are three guidelines to help you and your kids have fun on your next hike. ENCOURAGETHEIR CURIOSITY One of the best ways to have your children learn about the world is letting them explore it. Being

The Coolest Fictional Cars Iconic Rides FromMovies and TV

Cars are a part of the fabric of American culture, so it’s no surprise that they regularly appear in movies and TV shows. In some cases, they go beyond functioning as a means of transportation and become a character in their own right. You may never have the chance to drive these famous fictional rides in real life, but that can’t stop you from dreaming about what it’d be like. Here are some of Hollywood’s coolest automotive creations. JAMES BOND’S 1964 DB5 Everyone’s special agent has driven a number of badass cars over the years, but the 1964 Aston Martin DB5 has been Bond’s favorite model, appearing in six films. If you happen to be incredibly wealthy, you can purchase a version of the car for yourself. Will it come with bulletproof plating, machine guns, and the ability to automatically swap license plates? No, but it will still look pretty cool.

THE BATMOBILE Batman may not have the mind-bending abilities of other superheroes, but the Caped Crusader definitely has the dopest whip in either of the Marvel or DC universes. The Batmobile has been through many iterations over the years, from Adam West’s TV version to Christian Bale’s bonkers battle vehicle. In all its forms, the Batmobile rules.

DOC BROWN’S DELOREAN Another fictional car based on a real-life model, Doc Brown’s DeLorean DMC-12 from “Back to the Future” has a feature most of us would love to try out: time travel. While the publicly available version didn’t come with a flux capacitor, that didn’t stop ‘80s drivers from trying to reach 89 miles per hour. That is, if their DeLoreans didn’t break down immediately after leaving the dealership.

RELAX IN THESE COOL DESTINATIONS THIS SUMMER

could be better than a midnight hike around the fourth happiest country in the world?

As the scorching summer sun beats down, it’s hard to remember that just six months ago you were shivering through the winter, whether that meant a chilly 50 degrees F or bitter subzero temperatures. Bordering Sweden and northern Finland, Norway can even be the beginning to a cool European tour this summer.
