The City of Clarence-Rockland would like to remind all residents that door-to-door sales (selling of products or services) are increasing in the area. We ask that residents be wary and ensure that the salesperson or representatives are licensed by the City. Anyone operating in the City of Clarence-Rockland must hold a municipal business license. The City of Clarence-Rockland is offering the following tips to help protect residents from unlicensed business operators/salespersons: • Ask the salesperson to provide you proof of a Clarence-Rockland business license permit (take down business license number located on the bottom left of the permit) and contact the City to verify validity; • If the salesperson says that he represents an organization, check his ID and call the organization to verify that what you are being told is accurate; • There’s no obligation to open your door to a salesperson; • Don’t feel obligated to allow a door-to-door salesperson into your home; • If you want him to leave, ask him to leave. If he refuses, call the police. Complaints or enquiries about a door-to-door salesperson or business can be forwarded to the Municipal Law Enforcement Service at 613 446-6022, ext. 2244.
