C’est un problème qui touche l’ensemble de la province et du pays.» Le comté de Lanark est devenu la pre- mière municipalité à déclarer la violence entre partenaires intimes comme une épidémie en 2022. Depuis, près de 100 municipalités canadiennes ont emboîté le pas.

La municipalité de Clarence-Rockland a officiellement déclaré que la violence entre partenaires intimes était une épi- démie. Le conseil de Clarence-Rockland a approuvé à l’unanimité une motion présentée par la conseillère Diane Choinière lors de la réunion du conseil du 14 février. «Les femmes ont encore peur de parler lorsqu’il leur arrive quelque chose, a déclaré la conseillère du quartier 8. Cela m’inquiète de voir que les femmes ne se manifestent pas parce qu’elles pensent que les res- sources sont insuffisantes.» Mme Choinière a indiqué que la région et les zones avoisinantes ont connu une augmentation constante des cas de violence entre partenaires intimes, selon une étude publiée récemment et dirigée par le Lea- dership féminin Prescott-Russell. Le rapport, publié en octobre 2023, met en évidence une tendance à la hausse de toutes les formes de violence à l’égard des femmes dans la région.
