The lineup of first-rate exhibits in early 2024 included solo shows by Judy North, Sherry Petrini, Barbara Lawrence and some impressive group exhibits. The month of May alone comprised three separate art exhibits (The Fred Berensmeier Memorial art exhibit, the Spring Art Show and the Lagunitas Community School Art and Poetry Week) plus an Artist’s Panel Talk! The 34th annual Spring Art Show presented a bursting at the seams exhibit with 100 artists and a reception attended by a few hundred Valley friends and neighbors. Thanks to all the artist-volunteers who took on a variety of tasks to make this year’s Spring Art Show such a success. A special acknowledgement goes to the Spring Art Committee (Donn DeAngelo, Gaetano DeFelice, Molly Rea, Danielle Fogel, Kerry Olivotti, Julie Young). And additional thanks to all of those volunteers who go above and beyond the call of duty: Marty Meade for her diligence and patience cre- ating our labels for each artist, the hanging crew: Geoff Bernstein, Donn DeAngelo, Jim Finnegan, Molly Rea and Tom Tabakin, Michel Kotski for all his first-rate videography, Donn DeAngelo for his additional efforts with the artist photo shoot, the poster design, and photographing the artists during the reception, Debra Amerson for her “Botanical Art & Rhythms” event during the reception and JeanA for her stunning and art- ful floral arrangements. And a tip the straw hat to our loose association of music pickers, the Getting-Older-and-in-the-Way-Formerly-Thursday Night Old-Timey Players. The Artists Panel Talk The Community Center in conjunction with the SGV Historical Society presented a “Valley Artists Panel Talk” on May 25. It was an outgrowth of the oral history project the Historical Society is currently engaged in. Our featured artists guests were Anne Faught, Judith Selby Lang, Richard Lang and Marty Meade. I thank them all for taking the time to share their sto- ries and histories with us. And of course, Owen Clapp, SGV Historical Society founder and chair, and a special nod to Melissa Meith for her con- siderable labors conducting hours of interviews with Valley residents. Jim Ringseis I noted the passing of Jim Ringseis of Ringseis Designs Picture Framing of Fairfax. He wasn’t a Valley resident but he certainly made a lot of Valley artists’ work look good. He was a masterful framer and a very nice person. Jim often did work for the Community Center-- including bringing new life to our Connie Smith Siegel 44-year-old mural hanging in the Valley Room --which he did as donated labor to the Center. Coming Soon: Solo exhibits by Judy Arndt, Marie Eisen, Cindy Miracle, Susan Doyle, Jim Finnegan and much more. We offer exhibits by our community art- ists every month.
