DELIBLATSKA PEŠČARA Banat krije mnoga prirodna bogatstva, a na samom njegovom jugu nalazi se jed- na izuzetno retka i neobična pojava: pra- ve peščane dine. Deliblatska pešča- ra je jedinstveni fenomen u Evropi, pa je neki
smatraju čak i najvećom pustinjom na celom kontinentu. Peščara je zbog svog izgleda pro- zvana „evropska Sahara“, a nastala je usled odsustva bilo kakvih površinskih vodenih to- kova. Na ovom prostoru su se održali iskon- ski peščarski i šumsko-stepski eko-sistemi, dok su se u rečnom koritu, na obalama i ada- ma Dunava, razvile vodene, močvarne i šum- ske zajednice. Smatra se i jednim od najvažni- jih staništa ptica na kontinentu.

unique phenomenon in Europe, with some even considering it the largest desert area anywhere on the continent. The look of this area led to it being nicknamed the European Sahara, and it was formed in such a unique way due to the lack of any waterways on its surface. Ancient desert and forest-steppe ecosystems have been main- tained in this area, while water, swamp and for- est habitats have developed in the river basin, along the banks and sandbars of the Danube. Deliblato Sands is also considered one of the continent’s most important bird habitats.
