between the two capitals come about? „In recent years we have wor- ked all over the world. And we con- tinue to do so. However, Belgrade was and remains the place to whi- ch we have returned time and aga- in in our search for inspiration. At some point, “returning” has organi- cally become “creating together”.“ As a communications ex- pert, you work with brands, corporations, mu- nicipalities and even pol- itics as a trusted partner. At the same time, you are considered the “enfant terrible” of the Berlin art scene. How does that fit to- gether? „It´s a wonderful fit. The “en- fant” always tells the truth and the “terrible” tells it in an exciting way. What else would be the alternative? No one wants to hear dull untrut- hs. Besides, they bore me. I have the peculiarity that one-dimensi- onal issues bore me very quickly. Then I run away, because life’s too short to dip your brain in an acid of monotony.“ You recently opened your gallery “Monolog” in Bel- grade. What made you take this step? „It wasn’t me alone, but toget- her with my co-curator Jan Gustav Fiedler. And because we’re both in- sane.“ Because of Belgrade? „No. Because of the gallery.“ In the past, however, you have achieved spectacular sales. That doesn’t sound like insanity. „But it was never primarily about the money. I work with ar- tists all the way to Kazakhstan or Kyrgyzstan - and I don’t know many colleagues who undertake such jo- urneys in search of talent. I’m less interested in the art market bub- ble. It bores me. The search for the muses is what drives me. So when I come across exceptional artists and works, it’s easy to communi-

cate them as such, because that’s what they truly are. Exceptional.“ What is currently on dis- play at the Monolog gal- lery? „The wonderful world of Dea Džanković in an exhibition titled “Suzovača”.“ Can you name one Serbian artist that you do not rep- resent, but whose work we should buy? „You should buy works by all Serbian artists. Don’t wait forever for the perfect work of art. Otherwi- se it will never come and you will die. Just start. And never undere- stimate the energy of the art you will surround yourself with. Dec- lare collecting a mission that goes beyond pure investment. Then it gets really exciting.“ You´re avoiding the ques- tion. „Not at all. The question of pur- chase is difficult to answer with a single name. Culture is a collecti- ve experience.“ But what about the ques- tion of extraordinary tal- ents that are currently oc- cupying you? „Then I have to make at least two out of one and mention Brani- slav Jankić and Marina Marković. Marković is a tornado that sweeps over all prejudices and barriers wi- th an unbelievably deep lightness. Jankić is a storyteller of the best kind. His poetry can cut your fin- gertips. Generally, we must reali- se that Belgrade is at the forefront of a contemporary generation that has immense potential.“ What is the best way to ac- tivate this potential? „Who says that Basel has a mo- nopoly on art?“ So are we expecting some kind of “Art Belgrade”? „I’m just saying that if there is a metropolis in the Balkans that has the infrastructure, educational fa- cilities, creative scene, size and so- ul for something like that, it would be Belgrade.“

Beograd je bio i ostao mesto na koje smo se uvek vraćali u našoj potrazi za inspiracijom Belgrade was and remains the place to which we have returned time and again in our search for inspiration
