S T O R I E S O F H O P E
Since early 2020, St. Vincent de Paul Georgia has been at the forefront of the nonprofit community’s response to COVID-19, with our staff and state-wide network of volunteer caseworkers allowing us to respond immediately and adeptly to the pandemic and its economic repercussions. While requests for help have increased nearly 40% during this time , so too did the financial assistance and safety net services that we were able to provide. As those in our communities faced furloughs, extended unpaid sick leave, unemployment and other financial setbacks, SVdP Georgia provided over $ 12.9 million of direct financial aid for rent, utilities, mortgage, medical bills and more to 30,706 households . We also provided more than $4.6 million of in-kind assistance such as food and other necessities, helping over 172,000 neighbors in need across the state. Each of these neighbors who call on us for help has a unique story to tell. These brave people are sharing their stories with you in hopes that you will understand some of the barriers they face and perhaps be inspired by their effort to build a better future for themselves and their families.

Three years (today in fact) I broke my leg in half (literally) and was unable to work for some time. I had a limited safety net, consisting mostly of credit cards. When that ran out I was searching desperately for assistance to pay rent and keep utilities and phone on. I found SVdP Georgia, had an assessment with the intake team - which was a wonderful experience. There was no judgement, and they were extremely sympathetic to my plight. They were able to provide the financial assistance that I dared hope for. In addition, they insisted I use the food pantry to save my money for other essentials. It was a life saver! Everyone I interacted with in the organization was so kind, and not judgmental one iota. I vowed I would ‘pay it forward’ when I could and donate back to the organization. The credit cards aren’t quite paid off, but almost, allowing me to be in a position to give back now. In addition, I had some of my closest friends who helped with small financial gifts at the time as well, and am paying that amount forward too. What a great feeling it was to let them know I’d finally been able to do that! In addition to that, I decided this year everyone in my orbit doesn‘t really’ need’ anything, while there are so many now that do. Instead of gifts, I added that to the SVdP Georgia sum. I look forward to sending more contributions in the future. A NO T E F ROM A S T. V I NCEN T DE PAUL C L I EN T

Greetings! I know so often you get emails regarding the things that are wrong and what you can do better. BUT... I wanted to take the time to say thank you! My family and I are beneficiaries of the rental assistance program and this program SAVED US... LITERALLY! I have been gainfully employed since the age of 15 and have been very successful in my career. I have never had to seek assistance. COVID-19 turned our world upside down. With children who are high-risk and one who actually contracted the COVID-19 virus... Our entire lives had to change. Prior to finding out that St. Vincent de Paul Georgia offered assistance to Johns Creek residents, I had applied for every other program in Fulton County and had been wait-listed over a month. In the meantime, I feared the Sheriff would show up any day to evict us. From the time I contacted St. Vincent de Paul Georgia to the time they showed up to my management office with a check... was 3 days!!! So when I say that they saved us... I mean this authentically. Please continue to support and donate to this organization... IT IS NEEDED. I sat in our apartment’s management office next to other families who were in the same situation as my family was.
