Siemens identified biodiversity as a critical but previously unassessed component of its corporate sustainability strategy. TBC conducted a biodiversity and water risk assessment across Siemens’ value chain, followed by a value chain biodiversity footprint assessment to deepen understanding of key drivers of nature loss. Completed in fiscal year 2023, the assessment covered Siemens’ own operations and upstream value chain, including impacts associated with raw material sourcing, and focused on pressures such as land use change, pollution, and climate change. These insights informed the development of a comprehensive, group-wide biodiversity strategy designed to align with Siemens’ existing water and carbon work. Ørsted sought to assess biodiversity impacts and dependencies across its renewable energy portfolio as a step towards alignment with Science-Based Targets for Nature (SBTN). TBC conducted a materiality assessment and location-based risk analysis across direct operations and priority supply chain commodities, using the SBTN Materiality Screening Tool. These insights were used to identify priority sites, commodities, and country–commodity combinations, and to support collaborative target-setting workshops with the Ørsted team. Early in their nature journey, this well-known technology sector client sought clarity on biodiversity impacts, dependencies, and alignment with emerging nature-related frameworks. TBC conducted a quantitative hotspot assessment across the full value chain, followed by natural capital assessments at selected sites and an analysis of financial exposure. Through workshops with teams across corporate functions, data centres, offices and supply chain, TBC co-developed a set of practical recommendations.
The client gained a clear understanding of the scale and distribution of biodiversity impacts across their operations and supply chain, enabling the identification of priority areas for early action and baseline development. With TBC’s action plan, the client has now initiated internal strategy development to drive their nature-positive ambition forward.

The assessment gave Ørsted a science-based view of biodiversity risks and impacts across its operations and value chain, positioning the company as an early adopter of SBTN for renewable energy, including offshore wind. The work identified clear priorities and practical pathways for future target setting despite current limitations in SBTN guidance. It also built internal capability through a repeatable approach, strengthening Ørsted’s readiness to

The assessment provided Siemens with its first transparent, company-wide view of biodiversity impacts across operations and the upstream value chain. Siemens highlighted the work in its 2023 Sustainability Report as a critical step towards developing its biodiversity strategy. The results now inform the integration of biodiversity into Siemens’ broader sustainability framework and
