Cobras celebrate 20th anniversary

Kings, 2:30 p.m. with the BantamMinor AA against Ottawa Valley Silver Seven, 4 p.m. with the Bantam Major AA against Saint Lawrence Steel, 6 p.m. with theMinor Mid- get AA against the Nepean Raiders and the last game taking place at 8 p.m. between the Major Midget AA team and the Kanata Blazers. Several Cobras players have gone on to play in the NHL, the OHL and the NCAA and have represented Canada at interna- tional competitions. The Cobras Day 20th anniversary event is free all day and open to the public.

The Eastern Ontario Cobras, the hockey organization responsible for themanage- ment of A and AA minor hockey associa- tions in Prescott-Russell, will be celebra- ting its 20th anniversary during the annual Cobras Day event at the St-Isidore Arena on Saturday, November 4 from9 a.m. to 10 pm. The Cobras Day event will be a packed day of hockey games and celebrations. The opening ceremony of the 20th anniversary celebrations and of the annual event will take place at 12:30 p.m. The rest of the day will be devoted to some good old fashioned competition, as there will be hockey games running frommorning until the evening. The Cobras’ teams range from Novice to Midget level teams and compete against various regions such as Kanata, Ottawa, Cumberland, Gloucester, Rideau St-Law- rence, Cornwall and even teams from the United States. The Cobras Day will see its first puck drop at 9 a.m. as the Cobras Novice A team take on the Nepean Raiders, followed by the Atom Minor A team against the Saint-Lawrence Steel and the PeeweeMinor AA also playing against the Saint-Lawrence Steel at 11 a.m. After the opening ceremonies, the after- noon will continue at 1 p.m. with the Peewee Major AA against Rideau Saint Lawrence

Young paddler kayaks long distance

Ben Davie participated in his first Under 15, 12-kilometer-kayak-long distance race at the Rideau Canoe Club in Ottawa on Sunday, October 1st and placed 11th out of 27 kayakers, with an unofficial time of 78minutes.The event was part of a series of competitions and took place at Moonies Bay. “It was themost difficult race I have done so far, but I did enjoy it and I am looking forward tomy next event at Petrie Island next weekend,” saidDavies. He has been taking part in canoeing and kayaking competitions for the last four years with the Petrie Island Canoe Club and he has won gold, silver and bronzemedals at the 2016 and 2017 Provincial Championships. —photo submitted
