Tens of thousands of patients a year undergo joint replacement surgery. Typically, this is done because of severe pain, limited movement, difficulty with walking and sometimes after an accident or injury. Whether you had a knee, hip or even shoulder replacement, a good successful outcome depends on the physical therapy done after the surgery.

You Can Compete At Any Age. We Can Help! Don’t Let Pain Keep You From The Activites You Love

Newsletter FAMILY...FITNESS...FUN!

Exercise is for everyone of all ages! Physical activity benefits the overall health of young kids, the older population and everyone in between. It helps to improve energy levels, mobility, function, agility, general physical fitness, and physical and mental health. The more active you are, the less prone to injury you will be because you are moving, gaining strength and providing a good foundation to a healthy body. One of our physical therapists, Kristen Sowers, and her 12 year old son, Logan, have become a running team. Logan runs Cross Country for his middle school and had the desire to improve. He reached out to his favorite physical therapist, mom, for her advice on how to achieve this goal. Kristen took this as an opportunity to foster an activity for them to do together for years to come. Kristen trained Logan on effective breathing, speed work, injury prevention, proper nutrition and more. Logan enjoyed it so much he began running races with his mom including 2 half- marathons at the age of 12, crossing the finish lines hand in hand! Ultimately Logan received the most improved runner award in cross country and has now registered for 2 more half-marathons this year. Do not let age stop you from exercising. You are never too young or too old and there are endless options for all ages. Get moving in any way that you enjoy and provide yourself with a healthier you!

However, a sudden burst of physically demanding activity in an individual who is not used to that type of strenuous exercise can increase the risk of injury. How do most injuries occur? thought about it. As you get older, your tissues become less elastic and in fact a little “drier”.
