2025 Annual Meeting

Annual Report of the Chair, Board of Governors And the General and Special Committees 2025

THE ANNUAL REPORT OF THE CHAIR OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS

MR. RAIGHNE ‘RENNY’ C. DELANEY, CHAIR I am pleased to report that the Club is in excellent condition. I would also note that our acquisition of the apartment building on Edgewood St. continues to pay dividends. It has provided us with the ability to house many workers, and because we no longer rely on as many outside contractors, we have achieved annual dues savings of approximately $12 / month. You will be pleased to learn that the Executive Committee successfully negotiated an extension of Patrick King’s contract. This means that Patrick will serve as our General Manager until at least March 2030. In addition, we have incentivized Patrick to, at some point, begin searching for a Deputy General Manager. While any such person would need to compete for the General Manager position upon Patrick’s retirement, we will all benefit from having a person who possibly might fill Patrick’s shoes someday. In addition, we have negotiated contract extensions with a number of senior club staff, so our next few years look very stable at the staff level. We have also spent years reviewing our requirements and planning the Club’s future. We have some long-term capital issues; we are trying to solve them. These include future facilities improvements. While I cannot say which of these improvements will come first, all of the projects are meritorious. Some projects are more urgent than others. You will receive a survey after the Annual Meeting regarding these projects. The Board looks forward to receiving your input in this upcoming survey, before it decides which projects to try to push to the front of the line. I expect that you will vote on one or more of these projects in 2026. One of these projects is a new project for Fairfax. The Fairfax Task Force, led by Jake Jacobson and Eric Schnabel, has completed its work. They developed an innovative and exciting concept worthy of your consideration. Their project nicknamed “the Wing” will need to compete with the other projects as we move forward to survey the next step. The protestors of an event at the Club this year trespassed into our clubhouse. The police were called but failed to appear. Five members of our staff had to use physical force to evict the trespassers. (It is legal to use reasonable force to evict a trespasser). These employees were: Juan Nunez, Helio Medina Gonzalez, Devin Fleig, Anna Jose Cuccias, and Joseph Nesbitt. The Arlington County Chief of Police personally apologized to me and said this would never happen again. All of the staff involved were awarded a certificate of appreciation, a challenge coin, and a gift certificate of $150. Former Treasurer John Ladd led the effort to pursue funds from Lisa Stanley. After civil, bankruptcy and criminal litigation, she pled guilty to mail fraud. At Ms. Stanley’s final sentencing, scheduled for December 2025, per the plea agreement, we expect the court to award restitution to Army Navy CC in the amount of $329,086, in addition to approximately $33,000 already recovered to date. This would be a full recovery for the Club. Thank you to John Ladd for his doggedness in pursuing this matter.
