RACQUET SPORTS COMMITTEE

MR. SCOTT BORDER, CHAIR Racquet Sports continues to experience strong growth at ANCC. Outdoor court usage surged to 15,782 hours in 2024, up from 12,150 hours the previous year. Indoor usage remained exceptionally high as well, with 11,702 hours played, representing 92% of all available indoor season time based on a 12-hour day. The number of indoor contracts came down to 126 for the 2024–2025 season, down from 135 last year and 150 two years ago, allowing for more efficient scheduling and larger block usage. Instructional demand also remained robust, with over 10,000 hours of lessons and clinics taught. Adult programs continue to thrive at ANCC. To accommodate evolving work schedules, we added an evening ladies’ team, bringing our total to twelve teams, the most in the DMV area and, in some cases, double that of other large clubs. During the spring season alone, we hosted ninety- one ladies matches, totaling 404 lines of doubles. The fall season is expected to bring a similar volume of play. The Men’s Intraclub League remains a strong and vibrant program, averaging fifty players each Saturday morning during the outdoor season. In addition to our robust tournament calendar, the Men’s Singles Ladder saw a significant increase in participation — sign-ups were up 30% and matches played increased by over 40% compared to last year. We also introduced new social events, including a Sunset Social and a Tennis Luau, which drew record sign-ups for racquets socials. While the weather impacted the Luau, the high level of interest confirms this will be a priority for future programming. Our USTA programs continue to remain a large part of the racquets program, and we have had plenty of success so far this year, including standout performances across our women’s and mixed teams. At the 3.0 level, Tamara’s Slice Girls (captained by Tamara Ashford) went 9–1 to finish first in their league and will head to Regionals for the third straight year.
