2025 Annual Meeting

Annual Report of the Chair, Board of Governors And the General and Special Committees 2025

In mixed play, Team Stars & Stripes went 7-2 to finish first in mixed trilevel 4.0-3.0 18+ league play in Fall 2024 and then went on to compete at Sectionals in April 2025, finishing 1–1 in their flight with a close loss to Fredericksburg and a win over Anne Arundel. The roster includes Don Meyer, James Moore, Brian Reardon, Erin Alexander, Barbara Hancock, Diana Hung, Linda Thierauf, William Hancock, Joe Napolitano, Justin Swick, Erik Wittreich, Carey Bryant, Whitney Austin Gray, Marc Short, Jennifer Cirenza, Jessica Harris, and Dana Moss. The ANCC Men’s 3.5 Team narrowly missed Regionals after a close 2–1 playoff match loss. The roster includes Scott Border, Biggs Cannon, David Cross, Robert Easton, William Hancock, Benjamin Kringer, Mark Murphy, Joe Napolitano, Jack O’Connell, Byron Pickard, John Sherner, Bryant Springer, and Oron Strauss. The Junior Program at ANCC remains a cornerstone of the racquets community, with 325 junior players, ages 4 to 18, participating last year. Over the course of the year, we offered 42 weeks of junior camps, clinics, and team practices, including Winter Camp and both Middle and High School Prep Camps. ANCC hosts three seasons of USTA leagues for 8U and 10U players, and we field eight USTA teams for players ages 12U to 18U - with four teams qualifying for Sectionals this past year. To support continued growth and enhance the playing environment, several capital projects are underway. A new canopy/awning over the Court 1 viewing area is scheduled for installation in August and will provide much-needed shade and protection from the elements, improving the spectator experience, especially during hot summer afternoons. Also scheduled for August is laser grading of the courts, which ensures a more level and consistent playing surface — improving drainage, playability, and long-term court maintenance. Design planning is also in progress for a major Indoor Tennis Center (ITC) enhancement, which will include fully upgraded interior common areas and locker rooms, new food and beverage options, and the addition of a stretching and warm-up area — all aimed at elevating the member experience both on and off the court. On the pickleball side, we are excited to add a covered viewing deck with overhead fans, creating a welcoming social space for members to relax, gather, and enjoy a drink after play. In addition, permitting is nearly finalized for pickleball court lighting, which will allow for evening play in the fall and winter months, helping meet growing demand as daylight becomes more limited. Finally, congratulations to Neil Bennett, who recently took over as the Director of Racquets, and special thanks to all of our amazing staff, including pro shop staff, grounds crew, our full-time and part-time pros, and our numerous summer staffers. You all make the ANCC Racquets experience second-to-none. See you on the pickleball and tennis courts, Scott Border Racquets Chair
