Annual Report of the Chair, Board of Governors And the General and Special Committees 2025
AQUATICS COMMITTEE
CDR MICHAEL J. PAUL, USN, RET., CHAIR Our post-Centennial year is another historic Championship Year for ANCC in our new aquatics facility’s third full season of operations. Following last season’s swim team Championship win, the first in 44 years, our ANCC swim team successfully defended their 2024 title with another Country Club Swimming and Diving Association (CCSDA) victory on 28-29 July. This is the 2nd repeat Championship title victory in the Club’s aquatics history! We are also incredibly proud of our ANCC Dive team who took the 2nd place title this year in the CCSDA Dive Championships! Congratulations to our Coaches Ian Handerhan, Katie Yost, and Anita O’Quinn for another incredible year leading our Swim and Dive teams. I’d also like to thank all of our member volunteers and Aquatics Committee members Carey Busen, Andrea Amberg, and John Fitzgerald for their tireless efforts working with the Swim and Dive team sub-committee and CCSDA to ensure a successful competitive season for our junior member athletes. Aquatics facility utilization remains at an all-time high, with our members enjoying the resort-like amenities at Arlington, as well as new pool deck shade upgrades at both Fairfax and Arlington locations. Our Arlington pools alone are on track to exceed 50,000 member and guest visits, a new record, at the time of this writing in July 2025. In accordance with strategic planning initiatives and Club goals, the Aquatics Committee set a goal to increase Fairfax aquatics utilization by 5% (Year over Year 2024-2025). To meet this goal, the committee and staff continued to refine the allowable guest policy at our Fairfax aquatics facility, increased Fairfax pool parties and unique activities. Looking ahead, the Aquatics Committee will continue to gather data on usage of both facilities and continue to find ways to improve the overall member experience. Specifically, we are looking at capacity issues and enhanced amenities to keep up with the tremendous demand for the region’s top country club aquatics facility - ANCC. On behalf of the entire membership, I’d like to extend a sincere thank you to our Aquatics General Manager Wendy Wilson, and her entire staff of true professionals including Zach Tyrrell, Kyle Tyrrell, and Mike Cooper. None of these accomplishments would be possible without the tireless efforts of our pool managers, lifeguards, security team, cleaning crew, and pool food and beverage staff. I’d also like to extend a sincere thanks to CAPT Justin Halligan, USN, Lt Col Doug MacIvor, USAFR, Mrs. Leslie Abbott, Mrs. Carey Busan, Mrs. Andrea Amberg, Mrs. Maria Butler, Mr. John Fitzgerald, Mrs. Susan Miller, LtCol Pete McAleer, USMC (Ret.), Mr. Robert Cavanaugh, and Ms. Natalie Hellmann for their exceptional efforts serving our club on the Aquatics Committee this year. Respectfully submitted, Michael Paul Chair, Aquatics Committee
