Kopriva Angus Functional Balanced Trait Angus Welcome to Kopriva Angus!
Welcome to Kopriva Angus! With a good heart, we extend our hand to you in friendship and in appreciation for your continued support of our program. We continue in pursuit of genetic progress toward truly functional balanced trait Angus. Our breeding goals thru the years seem to have evolved primarily toward fertility and longevity. Fertility is overwhelmingly the trait that dictates profit. Many of the popular fast growth and carcass traits come at the expense of fertility. Time has trained us to put the highest priority on efficiency and moderation. Scrotal measurement is a very important fertility indicator that also seems to suffer as carcass and growth traits are given too much importance. The real story however is seeing the bulls shine and their muscles ripple as they banter and spar with their brothers. I certify these bulls SOUND and ready to go! They have efficiently turned our home grown high roughage ration into athletic muscle and long thick frame. You will find well over half of the offering suitable for use on first calf heifers and recognize a selection of popular AI sires. It would be a mistake to overlook the bulls sired by our herd bulls, study them carefully, I think you will agree they walk neck to neck with the best. We recommend keeping daughters of our bulls. By keeping them you are benefiting from the years and years of culling and selecting, further magnifying your return on investment in Kopriva Angus genetics. The main reason we have our sale here on the place is we strictly adhere to a very high biosecurity protocol. This provides our customers with the cleanest breeding stock available without being exposed to the many diseases present at public facilities. We remain one of only a handful of herds in South Dakota that participate in the voluntary Johnes free certification program. Our cattle are handled quietly and under recognized Beef Quality Assurance procedures. Herd health is supervised by Dr. Ted Warkenthien armed with the best Zoetis products and boostered according to label recommendations. Bulls are ultrasound scanned by Loren Rozell and data compiled by the American Angus Association. Bulls are grown and developed properly on a high roughage ration balanced by Jack Sieben of J&R Feeds. Breeding Soundness Examinations are carefully administered by Dr. Rachel Livermore with the competent assistance of Kathryn Pommer both of Clark Veterinary Service. Artificial insemination and estrus synchronization by Duane Broek with Select Sires. Embryo harvest and transfer by Dr. Scott Josephson. We specifically recognize these individuals not only for their professional expertise but also for the high level of personal integrity and advice they provide. We are very happy to introduce our Lake Area Tech intern Ryan Meginness we are proud to have him “riding for Kopriva Angus” All the bulls have the Zoetis i50K genetic analysis and we share all the results with you. Statistical accuracy has always been a wild card with yearling bulls. With this exclusive technology, 50,000 genetic markers are analyzed from a DNA sample and used to fine tune the EPD’s literally making them as accurate as if the data on the bull’s first year’s offspring had already been reported. We just can’t pass up the opportunity to embrace this new science and share it with our customers. If you are unable to attend the sale, we encourage you to call one of our Ringmen to act as your agent and purchase for you the individual bulls you need. Your TELEPHONE BIDS ARE WELCOME and will be handled discretely and professionally. Please come early and study the bulls. We invite you to enjoy a meal with us before the sale. This is our opportunity to get acquainted and help you find the right bulls. Please bring along your neighbors, let’s celebrate Spring 2016 together at Kopriva Angus! Jim and Karen Kopriva Angela and Kerry Brown Lee Kopriva Ryan Meginness We are having a live video auction that will be broadcast on DVAuction.com. The sale cattle are all videoed for your inspection on DVauction. com. The sale location will be 1/2 mile North of our headquarters’ (2 miles North, 2 miles East, and 1/2 mile North of Raymond), there is a nice sale facility along with plenty of room to view the sale cattle and to park. We strictly adhere to a closed herd biosecurity protocol. This provides our customers with the cleanest breeding stock available without being exposed to the many diseases present at public facilities. We embrace this opportunity to get acquainted and help you make your selections. Jim and Karen Kopriva Angela, Kerry, Ivy, Adelyn, and Emma Brown Lee Kopriva With a good heart, we extend our hand to you in friendship and in appreciation for your continued support of our program. I learned how to AI in 1992. I went straight for high growth. After 10 years of using high growth sires and keeping those big movie star heifers my profit did not go up but my cow size did. I turned my 1400 pound range cows into 1800 pound feed burners. So it was no big surprise when I read there is ABSOLUTELY NO STATISTICAL CORRELATION BETWEEN WEANING WEIGHT AND PROFIT! Nor was I surprised to learn an 1800 pound cow needs 40% MORE FEED EVERY SINGLE DAY OF HER LIFE, than a 1400 pound cow! This expensive lesson taught me to moderate our cow size back to the 1400 pounders just like the efficient 1400 pound west river range cows I brought to Clark County in 1991. Study your lesson boys you can expand your herd from within your fences by 40% by moderating your 1800 pound cows back to 1400 pounders. Selling 40% more $2,500 calves! Yeah boys that’s too much money to leave on the table. We are headed into 3 more good cattle market years, now is the time to moderate for the future! We continue in pursuit of genetic progress toward truly functional efficient balanced trait Angus. Our breeding goals thru the years seem to have evolved primarily toward fertility and longevity. Fertility is overwhelmingly the trait that dictates profit. Many of the popular fast growth and carcass traits come at the expense of fertility. Time has trained us to prioritize efficiency and moderation. Scrotal measurement is an important fertility indicator that also seems to suffer as carcass and growth traits are given too much priority. The real story however is seeing the bulls shine and their muscles ripple as they banter and spar with their brothers. These bulls are SOUND AND READY TO GO! They have efficiently turned our home-grown high roughage ration into athletic muscle and long thick frame. You will find many of the BULLS SUITABLE FOR USE ON FIRST CALF HEIFERS. We place a high value on DOCILITY; more than just a convenience trait, high strung animals are not only dangerous but they perform poorly because the presence of people upsets them. We select for calm productive cattle. We recommend keeping daughters of our bulls. By keeping them, you are benefiting from our years of culling and selecting, further compounding your return on investment in Kopriva Angus genetics. After 34+ years of genetic selection on our cows, so it is with pride that we offer commercial HEIFERS in this sale. Also selling are fall BRED HEIFERS and fall BRED COWS. This is a window of opportunity to profit from our genetic selections and experience.

10 Fall Bred Heifers and 3 Fall Bred Cows 10 HOME RAISED FIRST CALF HEIFERS calving August 7th thru September 3rd. Their registration numbers are (21229290), (21229301), (21229304), (21229305), (21229307), (21229314), (21231252), (21231279), (21231311), and (21556881). They were synchronized and natural serviced to KA Stellar Deal 491 (21229320) and KA Summit Cross 2639 (20610390). These girls were among our first pick and we fully planned on keeping them in our herd. You will notice and appreciate the quality and design of these broody heifers with their whole life ahead of them. You will like them better every day you own them. These heifers were preg-tested by Dr. Eric Knock with the predicted calving date written on the blank red tag in their left ear. 3 YOUNG FALL CALVING COWS (2 cows – 3 years old) (1 cow – 4 years old) that raised calves each year in our spring calving herd. After weaning we turn bulls back into fall breed. They are set to calve September 1st- 20th. They are bred to our herd bulls. Here’s an honest set of low labor low input young cows. They should produce calves that will make excellent grass cattle for 2027. If you don’t grass the calves yourself, they will be in demand at the salebarn, grass cattle are getting hard to find. Selling as bred commercial cows. These cows were preg-tested by Dr. Eric Knock with the predicted calving date written on the blank red tag in their right ear. After sorting off our replacement heifers, we selected a nice even group of heifer calves to offer at the sale this year. They are granddaughters of Chisum, Cowboy Up, Niagara, Legendary, Barricade, Fast Forward, Tailor Made, Broadview, Heavy Hitter, McCumber Fortunate 512, and Unique. On November 30th, 2025 they were bangs vaccinated and given Ultrabac 7/ Somubac, Bovi-Shield Gold FP 5, Spirovac VL5, and poured with Inhibidor. They were boostered with Spirovac VL5 and given Fusogard footrot vaccine and Anthrax vaccine on Feb 14th, 2026. The heifers were purposely penned with fenceline contact with the yearling bulls to expedite puberty. These heifers have been fed and developed identically to the ones we chose to keep on a growing 46 Mcal TMR ration consisting of earlage, corn silage, alfalfa haylage, soybean meal, 0.8# Developer AV4 XPC R700 pellet, and ground hay (bromegrass/native grass and alfalfa)). To be sold as commercial heifers without papers. GENETIC OPPORTUNITY! 70 Commercial Replacement Heifers
