To Live Well Practical Wisdom for Moving Through Chaotic Times NEW FROM ALAN NOBLE How Can You Live Well in This Broken, Chaotic World? In To Live Well , award-winning author Alan Noble shows you how you cannot only endure but flourish in life. Through exploring the seven virtues of prudence, justice, fortitude, temperance, faith, hope, and love, you’ll learn how to: • choose gracefully, • act justly, • suffer steadfastly, • live moderately, • believe soundly, • hope resolutely, and • love rightly. This book won’t give you a ten-step plan to fix everything. It doesn’t promise clarity overnight. But it will invite you into something deeper: an ancient, time-tested path of habits of heart and mind that shape who we are and how we live. With honesty, theological depth, and a mentor’s heart, Noble names your confusion and offers an antidote—not by escaping the mess but by learning how to live faithfully within it.

1 LIFE LESSONS

Q&A with Alan Noble

What inspired you to write To Live Well ? Alan Noble: I was motivated to write this book after speaking across the country about You Are Not Your Own and people were asking me what they could practically do in their day-to-day life. In addition, I was speaking to college students regularly who had questions about how to navigate major life decisions. It seemed to me that there was a hunger for mentorship and practical wisdom, and I wanted to try to offer that through To Live Well .

What makes To Live Well different from other practical guides to life?

Noble: While there are plenty of practical guides to life, To Live Well grounds itself in the faith and virtues embraced by many Christians throughout church history.

The contemporary world is unsettled and uncertain, giving us little or conflicting guidance. As a result, we feel lost, confused, anxious, and frustrated. In the seven traditional virtues of prudence, justice, fortitude, temperance, faith, hope, and love, we can reorient ourselves toward God and His good, giving us practical ways to move through the world. What statements of hope do you offer readers in To Live Well ? 1. It’s normal to feel lost and confused in a society that lacks moral norms. 2. Life is hard, but through God and the cultivation of virtue we can endure and flourish. 3. We were created to pursue excellence for the glory of God. 4. While striving toward virtues does not save us or make us righteous before God, it does align our lives to God’s will and honor him. 5. Love is the affirmation that it is good that someone or something exists.

Becoming ProGrace Expanding the Abortion Conversation Beyond Life Versus Choice United in Grace, Beyond Debate

Conversations about abortion often center on the question: Are you pro-life or pro-choice? But what if that’s the wrong question? Drawing upon the life and teachings of Jesus, Becoming ProGrace invites Christians to ask new questions, such as: • What if conversations about abortion didn’t have to feel so tense, divided, or dehumanizing? • What does it mean to affirm the image of God in every person involved? • How do we navigate the tension we may feel when our deepest Christian values seem to conflict? • What would it take for Christian communities to become spaces of empathy, listening, and grace? Jesus led with grace. As we reimagine our approach to the abortion conversation, so can we.

The Way Back to One Another How to Live as People Created for Community Rediscover Community in a Disconnected World Jesus said his followers would be known for their love, not their loneliness. Yet over half of Americans—and American churchgoers—say that they lack companionship or that no one knows them well. We live increasingly disconnected lives, and our mental and spiritual health suffer as a result. In The Way Back to One Another , Jeff Galley and Phil Smith provide a remedy based on studying Scripture, learning from the global church, and observing best practices in thousands of small groups. The New Testament’s exhortations to love one another are not merely individual commands but instructions for experiencing deep relationships and community. Loving one another today will require a countercultural return to practices that are increasingly devalued and disregarded:

In Crying Out to God , Wendy Alsup uses psalms of lament to give words to our often-wordless cries. During this eight-week study, we learn that God not only allows our complaints about all that is not right, but he also welcomes our protests and tears. And we discover that God meets us in our lament, giving us his remarkable grace and provision in our time of need.

Feasting on Hope How God Sets a Table in the Wilderness A Sacred Invitation to Hope

FEASTING ON HOPE

How can we live as people of hope in the midst of unmet longings, unanswered prayers, and seemingly unresolvable pain? Through sharing her personal story of deep loss, Hannah Miller King reflects on how the ancient Christian practice of Communion can reframe our grief by embedding it in a larger picture of gospel hope. Each chapter presents a way in which the Lord’s Supper makes the hope of the gospel tangible, reminding us of God’s present faithfulness and promise of future renewal. With its inviting tone and thoughtful reflections, Feasting on Hope provides solace for those seeking hope amid a world that is not yet restored.

With disarming vulnerability and pastoral insight, King reminds us that the eucharistic life is not an escape from sorrow but communion with the Man of Sorrows who is himself our feast and our foretaste of the world made new. This book will feed your faith. . .” —STEPHEN D. WOOD, archbishop of the Anglican Church in North America and bishop of the diocese of the Carolinas . . . a word spoken in season. The Lord’s Supper does not eradicate our pain and anxiety. But the communion it provides us with the Lord and one another gives us grace and peace now and bright hope for the day when God will make all things new and fulfill our every longing.” —DOUGLAS A.
