appropriate nor appreciate. Teaching the precious truths of Christian living to those who are ungodly and unsaved is a waste of energy and effort. Only those who are born from above can en joy the ministry that comes from above. Only those who know God will be blessed by the knowledge of God. Let us give our ministry to fit the need. We Are Not to Answer Carelessly Matt. 7:11 It is always well to stop and think before answering in any. matter. We should think both of what we say and how we say it. Let us think of the ef fect it will have upon the person to whom we speak. Let us think of what God’s thoughts may be in regard to our attitude in ' answering. Let us think whether we know what we are talking about when we answer. We should de cide whether the answer is one of bit terness which will arouse hatred or whether it is explanatory and enlighten ing and will produce peace. October 22, 1950 "LET HIM DENY HIMSELF" Mark 8:34-38; Rom. 12:1 When Christ Jesus becomes our Lord and Saviour then there is, or should be, a complete abandonment to His will and purpose. It is true in the army with the soldier or in the hospital with the nurse. It is expected in those instances, but often it seems that some who profess to be saved want Christ Jesus to save them at the end of the journey but not have very much to do with their lives meanwhile. The path of victory and blessing is found in utter devotion to the Lord Jesus and a complete committal of the person to the Holy Spirit for His teaching, guidance, and molding. We Must Deny the Mind Its Freedom Phil. 4:8 The mind is very unruly and rebel lious against domination by any other person or power. Paul said that we should be ruled by the “mind of Christ.” Again he said, “ Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” His mind was continually on the busi ness of His Father both heavenward and earthward. His meditations were on eternal verities unmixed with personal ambition. Let us, too, have the mind of Christ. We Must Deny the Heart Prov. 4:23 The heart and the mind are frequently in conflict. The mind knows what is right but the heart knows what it wants. We are influenced by our feel ings rather than by facts. We want what we want when we want it regard less of our better judgment. The heart’s affections are to. be given to our Lord for we read, “ Set your affection on things above” where Christ sitteth. The tendency of the heart is to love things that are injurious and harmful to us. We must permit the Holy Spirit to di rect our affections as well as our thoughts. S E P T E M B E R 1 9 5 0

We Must Deny Our Bodies Rom. 12:1

CEYLON and IND IA GENERAL M ISSION

The flesh always remains flesh. It never gets converted and must always be put to death. Its desires are usually bad. The body wants liquor, tobacco, and immorality. The body wants in ordinate affections, evil thoughts, food, drink. Sometimes the body is given over to athletics to the utter neglect of the soul. It is with the body that we do both good and evil. The body is the ve hicle or the instrument whereby the soul and the spirit perform their tasks or gratify their desires. The Lord the Spirit wants to control the body that He may use even it for His good will and pleasure. We Must Deny Our Use of Time Psa. 31:15 Our lives are made up of time ar rangements. We shall succeed or fail according to the way we use our time. It is so easy to waste time and not hand that element over to our blessed Lord. The psalmist said, “My times are in thy hand.” God opens His hand at the right time and reveals to us what we are to do at that particular period. We should not be angry with Him if He upsets our plans or permits them to go awry. We should keep our eyes open and our ears attentive for the lessons
