in the fight against sin and Satan, and we need to keep in constant touch with the Lord by prayer. Many fail at this point, failing to see the practical importance of pray er. Somehow it seems so . . . theoreti cal . . . but then, the Lord brings us back to earth with His Word, “Men ought always to pray, and not to faint” (Luke 18:1). Thank you. f this prescription for the need of pray er, “ Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice” (Psalm 55:17). You see, as long as we are here on earth, there will always be the need of prayer. Something will always come up to drive us to Himself. Temptation sneaks around a corner. A decision is to be made. We are speaking to someone about the Lord, and need just that special word to convict them of the need of Christ. Everything depends upon Him. It is the Lord Jesus Christ who began our salvation, who set us upon this Christian way and life. We are never to forget that. We are to keep on looking up, and leaning upon Him for “we should not trust in ourselves” (2 Cor. 1 :9); “ not that we are suffi cient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God” (2 Cor. 3:5). Prayer-time is never lost time; but prayerless time carries more of a loss than we could ever realize. Communication . . . Be Serving “Workers together with him” (2 Cor. 6:1). What are we here for anyway? Why has the Lord left us here on earth in this vale of blood and sweat and tears, where every thing is a struggle and a battle? Wouldn’t it have been better . . . and safer . . . for Him to have taken us directly to heaven, the moment we believed, accepted Him as Saviour? Do you ever ask questions like that . . . especially when the way be comes hard, and those hard-knocks just seem tq pour down upon you? Sure you have! What Is Your Religion? T he question, “What is your religion?” has universal appli cation. Recent surveys reveal that roughly 95% of all people believe in God and have some form of religion. While it is true that most of us believe in God and have some form of religion it is also true that a great many of us shy away from thinking in concrete terms about our religion. We have it. It is there. But . . . well, it is something we just don’t talk or seriously think about. But there are times in our lives when we are no longer contented with a religion of shadowy existence. We want to I know the reality of deep inner peace. And when we come to the place where we realize a need then we can frankly think about the kind of religion we have. It has been said that all religion falls into one of two categories: do or done. We either have a religion based on doing good works or one based on something that has already been done for us. Christianity is a religion that falls in the done category. We become Christians by accepting what Christ has done for us. “We are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Once for all. That’s God’s view. The power that took Christ out of the grave is sufficient to save your soul and deal with your sin problem. Our part is not to pay but to receive. Not to work but trust. God didn’t attempt to save men. He did it, once for all. We can do nothing to earn this freedom from sin and worry and loneliness. “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost. That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” And again the Bible says, “ For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not,of works, lest any pian should boast.” Do or done? Into which category does your religion fall? If you’ve been trying your best and yet are not sure that your sins are forgiven and that your relationship with God is right then won’t you consider the way to God that Christ has already worked out? Christ said “ I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” All of us know there is no real inner peace and rest until our relation ship is right with God. It was Augustine that said, “ Thou hast made us for Thyself, 0 God, and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in Thee.” You can have that rest right now . . . by simply accepting what Christ has done once for all. How can we be satisfied with anything less lasting, any thing less real, than the rest and peace and assurance that Christ alone can give? — L. H.
