The Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is remin- ding motorists that there are specific rules when it comes to modifying their vehicles. “While many people have personalized the physical and mechanical aspect of their vehicles, they are reminded that many of these modifications do not meet the stan- dards of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) of Ontario,” stated the OPP in a news release. “The most popular modifications are large oversized tires, missing mudguards or fender flares, specialty lighting, tinted windows, loud aftermarket exhaust and plate covers.”
“While local shops will provide whatever modification you wish, it is the owner’s res- ponsibility to ensure the vehicle meets the legal requirements, maintained the release. “Members of the Russell County OPP will focus on aftermarket equipment modifica- tions and dangerous driving behaviours. When an officer on patrol observes these aftermarket equipment modifications, the vehicle is subject to be stopped and the driver charged. In certain circumstances, the vehicle could be towed and the licence plates seized.”
