Since the Revolution, our nation has stood in constant, costly defense of its sovereignty and the unique freedoms on which the American way of life was built. Thanks to the determination of our nation and its people, Freedom continues to ring loudly on July 4 today as it did in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776. At Park Place, we are blessed to have residents that have signed up to defend our freedom as well as residents that have experienced the journey to live in this country seeking the freedom it offers. out what the British were up to. One spy ring operated for five years, and none of its spies was ever detected. Paul Revere was not the only rider sent out to the Massachusetts countryside to warn of the approaching British. He was one of several. But his famous ride made the news and led to the legend. More soldiers died of smallpox than were killed in battle. It was a deadly pandemic throughout the war for both sides. But the initial idea of inoculation came out during this time, and Washington had his entire army inoculated at Valley Forge. As a result, many more soldiers lived to fight. Women dressed up as men and played an important role as soldiers in the war. In addition, more Black Americans joined the American troops as the war progressed. In fact, the American Revolution was the most multi-ethnic war America ever fought until the 1900s. While there have been those who insist that most of America’s founders were not Christians, but followers of Enlightenment thinking, a deeper study reveals that a larger group followed Jesus Christ, were faithful in Sunday worship in churches, and espoused Biblical teaching.

Unexpected Unexpected. I’m sure you have plenty of stories of unexpected events that just so happened. Some were wonderful. Some were devastating. But here we are in July celebrating 250 years since the United States of America was founded. If you do some historical digging, you will find any number of surprising, unexpected facts. Here are a few. The Continental Congress hired privateers (licensed pirates) to disrupt and/or loot British shipping. Some $18 million worth of British goods were acquired (about $300 million in today’s dollars). The first submarine was built. Called the “Turtle,” it sought to attach explosives to British ships in New York harbor. George Washington and others operated secret spy rings to find

As we commemorate America's 250th birthday, it's a wonderful opportunity to reflect not only on our nation's history but also on the blessings we enjoy each day. Freedom is often found in life's simplest moments—the ability to gather with loved ones, worship according to our beliefs, lend a helping hand, or enjoy a quiet walk on a summer afternoon. These everyday gifts are easy to overlook, yet they enrich our lives in countless ways. This month, take a few moments to pause and give thanks for the people who have shaped your journey, the opportunities you've been given, and the faith that has carried you through both joyful and challenging seasons. Consider sharing a favorite memory of Independence Day, expressing gratitude to someone who has made a difference in your life, or offering a prayer for our nation and its future. A grateful heart has a remarkable way of bringing peace, strengthening hope, and reminding us that even in unexpected moments, there is always something to celebrate. Americans of European descent believed in God as the Sovereign Creator of humanity. They believed His laws and teachings were foundational in establishing a nation where people were free to pursue faith in Him without government prevention or meddling. As we celebrate our 250th national birthday, let’s praise the Lord that we continue to live in a nation where we can freely worship, pray, give, and serve without persecution or fear of government interference.

A Message from Life Enrichment

As of June 18, we have been bus boarding at the 1st Floor D Wing Lobby. In addition to this change, anyone that will be bringing a rollator with them on a bus trip will now need to board with their rollator on the bus lift. Melissa will no longer be loading rollators via bus steps. Foldable walkers are acceptable for continued step use. If you have any questions concerning this change, please contact Melissa in Life Enrichment (219) 351-5231, Ext. 1031.

Join the Fun There are still opportunities to join Wii Bowling, Bridge, Cornhole, and Symbria Sr. Wellness activities. Please consider the benefits of becoming active in these group activities which can assist in maintaining your independence, sharpening your cognitive function, and preventing isolation. United Redeemer Church is now streaming their services on You Tube as Redeemer URC (@redeemerurc1500). If you need assistance with this or would like Melissa to add this to the Sunday Services currently being streamed in the Community Room or Gathering Room, please let her know. United Redeemer Church has also offered to provide transportation for any residents interested in physically attending Sunday Services.
