The Jews complained to Moses and Aaron, telling them they had only made their slavery worse. Moses prayed to God about it. God told Moses He would keep His promise, and help him free the people. God sent Moses and Aaron the second time to Pharaoh, saying, when you get to him, throw your rod on the ground, and it will turn to a serpent. This was done; Then Pharaoh called his wise men to do the same; their rods became serpents hut Aaron’s rod quickly swallowed them up. Pharaoh would not let the Jews go. (Describe carefully each of the plagues that follow .) Moses turned the water into blood, and brought a great plague of frogs. Two of Pharaoh’s wise men did the same. But when Moses brought lice and flies, Pharaoh’s wise men could not do those miracles, and told Pharaoh that-it was God who did them. Pharaoh was willing to let them go a little way off, but not back to Canaan. Murrain, boils, hail, came. Then Pharaoh was willing to let the old people go, but not the children. Locusts and darkness came next, but Pharaoh was stubborn, for he threatened to kill Moses and Aaron if they came to him again. Moses and Aaron were not afraid, for they knew God was with them. Next Sunday we will hear what God did next. Pharaoh is just like the Devil who loves to keep us slaves to sin; he will not let us go, unless God makes him, and then he will fight us all the time, just as he fought Moses and Aaron. But we need not fear, for God will help us to conquer. The Devil may try to harm us, as he did the Jews, but God will punish him just as he punished the Egyptians. The only plagues that bothered the Jews, were the first three. After that not a plague touched the Jews. There are some troubles that we have to have down here as Christians, but God will take care of us through them all. Those who, like Pharaoh, refuse to do what God wishes them to do, will be badly punished by Him. Those who love Jesus, and try to obey God in all things that Jesus wants us to do, will be cared for by God, and kept from harm.
