3 incumbent Councillor Carl Grimard will run unopposed. Bouchard’s run for mayor means Ward 4 will be without an incumbent. Current Ward 1 councillor Samuel Cardarelli is running against Gerry Bertrand and Jacques Diote. André J. Lalonde, incumbent councillor for Ward 5, is competing against Marc Roy and Sarma Merdian. Ward 6 Councillor Christian Simard is not running again, leaving the seat open for Simon-Olivier Péladeau-Houle and Sylvie Riopel. Ward 7 Councillor Michel Levert is seeking his third term and is challenged by Trevor Stewart, his first time running for public office.

The list of registered candidates for the 2022 municipal elections in October is now closed with 17 registered candi- dates across Clarence-Rockland’s eight wards, and two candidates vying for the mayoral seat. Incumbent Mayor Mario Zanth will face off against current Ward 4 Councillor Don Bouchard. Zanth was appointed mayor by council in 2020 after the passing of Guy Desjardins, thus this will be his first time seeking election as mayor. Ward 1 candidates include current council- lor of Ward 2 Kyle Cyr and Gabriel Ngameni, his first time running for council. Cyr took over the downtown ward from Zanth when the latter was appointed as mayor. Two new candidates are running in Ward 2, Jay Woodruff and Stéphane Fournier. Ward It’s a four-way competition for the mayor’s seat at AP Township council with Yves Laviolette, Chantal Galipeau, René Beaulne, and Marc Prudhomme all vying for the post. With the close of candidate nominations on August 19, there may be the seats for one ward to determine. Ward 2 has three contenders for its two seats. Zanth a été nommé maire par le conseil municipal en 2020, après le décès de Guy Desjardins, et c’est donc la première fois qu’il se présente aux élections municipales. Roger Chartrand and Louise Lalonde are competing for the seat on le Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est Ontario that includes Alfred-Plantagenet Township. Township residents eligible to vote should contact the municipal office to confirm that their names are on the voters list.
