T

ime is the essence of our existence. It is the force that ignites our motivation. It drives our decisions, our commitments and our desires. Time is sacred. As magnificent as time is, it is forever fleeting. Time doesn’t wait — it constantly changes everything, including us. As the clock ticks and the days pass, we become a road map of age, charted with scars, wrinkles, and stretch marks. As we mature, we are stripped of the beauty of youth, of taut, unblemishe skin. Essen- tially, time is beauty’s kryptonite. As the years fall behind us, so does our collagen and elastin—es- pecially if we haven’t protected ourselves from harmful extrinsic contributors, e.g.: unprotected sun exposure, tanning beds, poor hygiene, etc. Since the 1800s we have nearly doubled our life expectancy, gifting us with greater knowledge, access to more resources, and a richer quality of life than was ever expected or hoped for. For cen- turies, people long sought the “fountain of youth”, thus seeking longevity both inward and outward. Potions, serums, and stimulants were used for centuries in the hopes of staying young and beau- tiful. Today, we have science on our side. Fortu- nately for us, modern medicine and various socio-economic factors have granted us signifi- cant achievements. As our lifespan increases and technological advancements collide, humans have capabilities that could not have been dreamed of a hundred years ago. However, accompanying this treasured longevity, comes a thirst for more— to capture the characteristics of our youth. Although, today, it is impossible to stop aging, we now have the tools and information to slow it down, to experience chrono- and pho- to-aging on our own terms, allowing us to look and feel better. In the era in which we now live, medical aesthetic technologies such as laser treatments have em- powered men and woman alike around the world by improving a myriad of skin conditions, such as wrinkles, acne scarring, pigment and vascular lesions, removing unwanted hair or tattoos, to tightening and contouring body areas. Such devices have provided patients the opportunity to feel great pleasure and satisfaction by obtaining the results they wanted, without significant discomfort or downtime.
