had counseled his father, and they advised him to listen to what the people, through Jeroboam, had said. Then he called in the young men, and they advised him to tell the people that he would not grant their request but would add to their heavy bur dens. Rehoboam took the young men’s ad vice. Then what happened? Ten of the twelve tribes of Israel went with'Jeroboam and took him for their king and left Reho boam, son of Solomon, with but a small part of the country near Jerusalem. What a poor choice Rehoboam had made! How much better if he had prayed to God for wisdom!

permitting the top to fold forward when de sired. Make another crease 5 inches from the bottom. When the top is folded down and the bottom up, the top and bottom bars will come together and make a red cross.) Lesson: Did you ever have a black ey e ? If not, perhaps you have seen one. I have two black ‘T s,” but not the kind you are thinking of. I am referring to the letter “I.” Here they are—black—suggesting sinfulness and pride. In looking at this first “I," we are re minded of King Rehoboam, Solomon’s son, who was filled with pride and made some foolish choices. He followed the advice of the wrong people, became a cruel king, and lost the greater part of his kingdom. In Proverbs 29:23, we read, ‘‘A man’s pride shall bring him low.” W e will place this big “I,” representing Rehoboam, on the floor, reminding us that he was brought low because of his pride. This other " I” reminds me of another man—Paul—who, too, in his young days was proud and haughty. However, he was changed, as this “I” is changing. As I fold the top of the “I” downward, and the bot tom upward, it is changed into a red cross. Paul received the Lord Jesus as the One who died for him, and he later wrote in Galatians 2:20, "Not I, but Christ." Boys and girls, if you are proud and haughty, you will be brought low. If you humble yourselves and accept Christ as your personal Saviour, His blood will cover your sin, and you will remind others of Him.

So they built and prospered. 8 And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valor. 9 And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with a host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah. 10 Then Asa went out against him, and thev set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathan at Mareshah. 11 And Asa cried unto the Lord his God, and said, Lord, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O Lord our God; for we rest on thee, and in BLACKBOARD LESSON "WFLP US, O LORD OUR. Outline and Exposition I. His B eginning (2-5)

ASA DID that which was good and /A right in the eyes of the Lord his J - -L- God"—that is, he was right, person ally, with God. Not only so, but he took away all that might cause him to forget his God. The altars of the strange gods, to gether with all that was used in their wor ship, were thrown down and destroyed. With Asa, righteousness was placed above sentiment and tradition. He was also right with God from a na tional viewpoint. He gave orders that all the nation should follow his example and should obey the law of the Lord. His per sonal example doubtless added force to his words. A leader who would have his peo ple walk in the right path must himself walk in that path, and this Asa was careful to do. The ultimate result was that “the kingdom was quiet before him." This is still God’s world, and those whom He has exalted to places of leadership and authority would do well to emulate Asa’s example.
