was already suspended. OPP Const. Eddy Saardi was on highway patrol on County Road 19 in Champlain Township when he noticed a westbound 2002 burgundy-coloured Chevrolet Cava- lier that had a defective licence plate light. He pulled the vehicle over to talk to the driver. That’s when he found that the
44-year-old Alfred man seated behind the wheel also had an open can of beer close beside him in the car. The officer also discovered that the man’s licence was suspended from a previous conviction. The car was impounded for seven days under the provincial VIP program. The driv-
er now faces charges under the Highways Act of driving while under suspension, and driving with an improper licence plate number light. He is also charged under the Ontario Li- quor Licence Act with driving a vehicle while having an open container of liquor inside the vehicle.
