At the end of last year, around 30 Year 9 boys had three days of trips to the Bank of England, British Museum, Bletchley Park and the London Eye. ‘I really enjoyed participating in the Senior Kangaroo competition last year having progressed from the Senior Maths Challenge. The questions were challenging but stimulating and I enjoyed the variety of thinking required to answer each question. It was a great sense of achievement that appeals to me and also motivated me to discover more of the world of Mathematics.’ Howard He, Year 13 The Mathematics Society covers a range of events, which last year included a series of talks on Financial Maths by Rubel Molla (OA), attended by Years 12 and 13, plus talks on various mathematical topics by outside speakers, staff and students. The society produces an annual publication, DC Mathematica, with articles by boys from all year groups. ‘The Maths in Finance sessions were very informative and it was refreshing to see how the maths we learn in the classroom can be applied in real life. It was interesting to be taught maths used in jobs in finance, by someone who has worked in the industry.’ Matthew Kempton, Year 13
