He noted that the UCPR has gotten a good start now on the new Prescott-Russell Residence project. They acquired land on Spence Street in Hawkesbury for the new facility, and hired a consultant firm as project manager, to get the architectural design process started, and confirm all funding for the project.
Russell Township Mayor Pierre Leroux has two goals as the new warden for the United Counties of Prescott-Russell. “Together we can do better,” said Leroux, during his inaugural speech December 18, following the swearing-in ceremony in the United Counties of Prescott-Russell council chambers (UCPR) in L’Orignal. Better communications between the UCPR, residents, and businesses in all eight-member municipalities, is the first goal of Leroux’s mandate for 2020. The other is improving and expanding the regional economy, but without relying on senior gov- ernment financial aid. “Our second goal is clear,” said Leroux. i8FOFFEUPDPOUJOVFJOWFTUJOHJOPVSTFMWFTu Leroux noted that the past years have seen cutbacks in provincial funding aid in some areas for municipalities. He cited the Prescott-Russell Area Partnership Program as one way for the UCPR to help its member municipalities attract new commercial and industrial investment, through development and improvement of existing commercial and industrial parks and other infrastructure. Concrètement, la zone neutre de rencon- tre (Safe Trade Zone en anglais) va consister en quelques places marquées à cet effet dans le stationnement du nouveau détache- ment de la PPO, sur la rue Cameron près de la route 17, qui ouvrira en 2020. On peut imaginer que le fait de se rencontrer au poste de police aura comme effet de dissuader et d’éloigner les malfaiteurs. Le mot neutre a une importance ici. Comme l’a expliqué M. Gratton, lors de la présentation du projet au conseil municipal, « la PPO veut rester le plus neutre possible ». Il ne faut donc pas s’attendre à ce que des agents surveillent vos transactions ou vos allées et venues.
