SALMONELLA WARNING The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHC) warns everyone to make sure any turkey or chicken that is part of their holiday meal is well cooked. The agency has reports of 126 confirmed cases of salmonella poisoning in Canada since October, including eight cases in Onta- rio. A PHC information brief noted that all cases involve undercooked turkey or chicken, so there is no products-recall notice required. Make sure all meat, whether turkey, chicken, beef or pork, is well cooked before serving. – Annie Lafortune FINANCIAL REPORT The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO) reviewed the 2018-2019 term financial report, during its November 5 session. The report will go to the Ministry of Education. Total re- venue was $189.5 million and expenses totalled $189.1 million, because of staff and administration economic efficien- cies, and some operating costs proving lower than projected. The report shows the CDSBEO with an accumulated surplus of $377,511, and an operating accumulated deficit of $881,000, which will be carried over into the 2019-2020 budget period. – Gregg Chamberlain WINTER FLOOD RISK Cold temperature and almost no snow have created a potential nuisance floo- ding risk if December weather proves rainy. The South Nation Conservation Authority (SNC) has put the water safety hazard at Yellow status for the South Nation River watershed region. An SNC information brief states that water levels are normal for this time of year, but the below-ground frost means that the soil in the region is now saturated from past precipitation. – Gregg Chamberlain
