• The Postgraduate Departmental Awardee was Antwain Williams who is pur- suing a (MPhil in French supervised by Dr. Francoise Cevaer).

GRADUATE STUDIES March 10, 2023 marks the succesful PhD Oral Examination for Ms.Caroline Cousins , PhD in French. Title thesis: Memory and Desire in the Caribbean Fiction of Jean Rhys, Maryse Condé and Jamaican Kincaid. Nine (9) students submitted their M.A. Research Papers, meeting all necessary requirement to be awarded the M.A. in Translation (French/Spanish) coordinated by Dr. Tamara de Inés Antón: Jamaal McKinght, “Writing the Francophone Carib- bean for the Anglophone Caribbean: Challenges and Concessions in Translation”; Krysten Nelson, “Social Economy as an Alternative to a Post Coronavirus society: an extended translation”; Rona Barnett-Passard “Children as Represented in African Folktales: An Extended Translation”; SKhet Qeman-Pet, “Translating Science: A commented translation of Two Scientific/technical Texts from French and Spanish into English”; Dejie-Ann Simms, “Medical Translation and Terminology: The Role of English as a Lingua Franca”; Vaughn Percival Bonner, “Credit Unions’ Input into the Agro-Food Sector: Extended Translation and Commentary on Cajamar Caja Rural’s Report”; Joel Polson – “El País de las Mujeres (Extract): An Extended Translation and Commentary”; Abrianna Matthew- “Getting Under Your Skin: Medical Translation and the Field of Aesthetic Surgery”; Cherish Collymore – “Translating Academic Research: A Commented Translation of an Academic Article from French into English”. CROSS CAMPUS COLLABORATION Two Graduate students registered for the course on Latin American Essay with the St Augustine Campus . Meetings have been held to secure further collaboration/multicampus teaching amongst the Campuses. COLLABORATION: BOOKS DONATIONS Handing Over of Books . On September 28 th , the DMLL received the visit of Mr. Jairo Raúl Clopatofsky Ghisays – Ambassador of Colombia who donated, on behalf of the Embassy of Colombia, a collection of Women Writing Novels to the Depart- ment. The books were received by the HOD, Dr. Villoria Nolla. DMLL receives Japanese texts from Japan Foundation. The Department received a book grant from Japan Foundation in AY 2020, but shipping from Japan to Jamaica
