CWU Summer 2021 Wildcat Guide

FINANCIAL

Financial wellness to anyone, but particularly for upcoming college students, can be an incredibly difficult challenge to achieve. For myself, I found financial wellness by managing my resources and making financial decisions to live within affordable means. Moving to an entirely different place, finding a new job, and realizing all new expenses that were then my responsibility was a bit alarming at first. However, by becoming aware of this new-found financial state, making lists that prioritized necessities and luxuries, and committing to those lists, I averted much potential stress. - Monica Chavey, 2020 graduate

Financial Wellness involves the process of learning how to successfully manage financial expenses. Money plays a critical role in our lives and not having enough of it impacts health as well as academic performance. Financial stress is repeatedly found to be a common source of stress, anxiety and fear for college students. Keeping track of expenses, making a budget, and sticking to it are important skills to have in order to be financially responsible and independent. Learning how to maximize your financial wellness now will help you feel prepared to handle potentially stressful financial situations in the future. Budgeting A budget is planning how much money you will get and how much money you can/want to spend. This money can come from jobs, support systems, financial aid, and more. You can budget to spend your money on transportation, food, school, events, trips, and more!

Do you know how to track your spending? You can find the name of your bank or set up an account with US Bank and download their app ! You can use the bank app to know what you are spending and how much money you have left. Turn on your notifications! Connection Card Money VS. Paying Tuition, Housing, and Financial Aid Refunds Great news! The money you receive every quarter on your connection card (also referred to as your CWU ID) to use for your food is NOT the same money you’re using to pay tuition, housing, etc. Your connection card contains the money from the Meal Plan that you signed up for, and can be checked anytime via MyCWU online.
