Chester Zoo - Project Lead - Major Projects

Principal Accountabilities • Lead, manage and deliver major strategic projects in the range of £10M to £25M in value, from inception to completion and at times be responsible for smaller schemes as workload demands. Establish and then deliver within approved budgets, providing value for money and delivering to programme to meet the strategic plan as agreed by the Executive and Trustees. • Support the F&D Director and Executive in delivering the Strategic Development Plan. • Management of the project delivery teams, project documentation, budgets, programme management, reporting, performance, etc. • Provision of advice and support on procurement strategies and approvals processes. • Lead on identifying risk and opportunities to the project, manage the project risk register and be able to apply risk management tools and strategies to enable the successful delivery of construction projects and programmes. • Ensure the production of detailed documentation to demonstrate the statutory and legislative compliance of projects – ensuring discharge of designer and client duties including planning, building regs, CDM 2015, and contractual obligations. Planning & Organising • Produce detailed programmes of work from inception to completion, to demonstrate how projects will be delivered and managed within project timescales. • Identify, procure and manage specialist external consultants and contractors throughout project lifecycle in order to deliver the project within agreed timescales and budgets. • Ensure the production of detailed documentation to communicate clearly and simply the physical outcome of projects. • Identify and regularly communicate with the key internal and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. • Understand and manage the impact of our activities on others.

Decision Making • Ensure that life cycle costings and sustainable criteria are fully considered during the design and construction processes, through consultation with colleagues within the team and the Zoo. • Pro-actively identify where improvements can be made, or streamlined to Zoo processes and/or protocols to improve outcomes. • Manage expectations of stakeholders to ensure that projects are delivered with value for money within budget. • Maintain communication with stakeholders during the course of the project, including the implementation of change control procedures to ensure changes to key delivery dates and expenditure of contingency are managed and agreed, before coming into effect. • Ensure your decisions are consistent with the Zoo ethos and commitment to conservation of resources. Look for opportunities to improve and incorporate sustainability principles and innovation inot the delivery of projects.

• Maintain appropriate records - establishing key success criteria and delivering to those, including time, cost, safety, and environmental and quality parameters. • Develop and maintain project management processes to align with organisational governance requirements, including client approvals and decision making, procurement, change management, handover, and risk management.
