made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”— Gal. 5:1. Pray for the Russian Bible and Evangelistic Society. FRIDAY, 31 Your Task. “ And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you.” 1^—1 Thess. 4:11. Pray for Dr. W. L. Tucker, Bible Lec turer. “And they that be wise shall shine on the brightness of the firmament, and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever.” (9) The Joy of This Service is Beyond Compare (Psa. 126:6) “He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.” (10) This Business is a Success. While more than 90 per cent of men who go into secular business and pro fessional life, fail, no man fails who prosecutes this business (Isa. 55:10, ID “For as the rain cometh down and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater; So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth; it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (11) There is No Excuse that Any Servant Can Offer for Failure to En gage in This Business (Jas. 4:17) “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” (12) The Field for This Service is the Whole World, (Matt. 13:38) “The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom.” (13) The Time for This Service is Now (John 9:4) “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day; the night com eth when no man can work.” (14) The Wages for This Service are Assured (John 4:36) “And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal.” (15) There are Difficulties in this Service, but None that are Insurmoun table (Eph. 3:20) “Now unto him that is able to do ex ceeding abundantly above .all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.” (2 Cor. 9:8) “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye* always hav ing all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.” (16) Wist Ye Not that Ye Must be About Your Father’s Business? (Luke 2:49). For sorrow t-here are promises, For pain and anguish too, And even for my smallest grief, I find a promise true! . No matter what the cloud may be, That drives my joy away, His shining promises break through, And darkness turns to day. [•.¡s^-Frances S. Pender. Pasadena, California.

WEDNESDAY, 29 Steady! - “ Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.’V—1 Cor. 15:58. Pray for the. Bible Insti tute of Los Angeles. THURSDAY, 30 Free Men. “ Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath “So then they that are in the flesh can not please God*” (2) God Desires the Salvation ,of Men. (1 Tim. 2:4) “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” (2 Pet. 3:9) “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (3) Men Need To Be Saved, (a) In order that they may glorify God here and hereafter, (b) That they may have the joy that comes from saving others, (c) That they may escape the doom of the impenitent. (4) God has Ordained the Salva tion of Men Through the Agency of Men. An angel could be the servant of God to Cornelius, but Peter was sent to show him the way of life. (Acts 10:3-6, 22) “And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter; He lodgeth with one Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the seaside; he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.” (5) Soul-Saving is the Great Busi ness of God. It was God who sought Adam and Eve after they had sinned: (Gen. 3: 8> 9) “And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?” (Luke 19:10) “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” (6) Every Believer in Jesus Christ as Saviour, is Constituted a Servant. (John 15:16) “Ye have not chosen me, but 1 have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatso ever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give It you.” (7) Servants are Called to be Soul-Winners (John 17:18) “As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have 1 also sent them into the world.” (8) Soul-Saving is the Most Bless ed Service Ever Committed to Men (Dan. 12:3) Now saved, I need the cleansing power, To keep me pure within, I look and lo! the promise gleams, “ He cleanses from all sin.” And should my heart have anxious fear For one outside the fold, I read, “ He hears the prayer of faith.” And to this promise hold. PROMISES

TUESDAY, 28 God Sent. “ But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.” -—Gal. 4:4, 5. Pray for Mexico. H HATEVER regrets we may have to face in eternity, we are sure that one of them will not be that we gave too much time to the service of bringing souls to Christ, nor to sowing the good seed whenever and wherever we could in the hearts of others. No time is ever misspent that is spent in His service. Let us put our hearts into the work and, as we study our lesson for October, resolve that we will be real soul-winners, making our own the beautiful prayer of Fran ces Ridley Havergal: Lord, speak to me, that I may speak In living echoes of Thy tone; As Thou has sought, so let me seek Thine erring children, lost and lone. Oh, strengthen me, that, while I stand Firm on the Rock, and strong in Thee, I may stretch out a helping hand To wrestlers with the troubled sea. Oh, use me, Lord use even me, Just as Thou wilt, and when, and where; Until Thy blessed face I see, • Thy rest, Thy joy, Thy glory share. Reports of your work will encourage us,— especially those of souls confes sing Christ. Write and tell us about them. Use the coupon on Page 675 to enroll other recruits, or send to us for a supply of these enrollment blanks. Remember, “ The night com- eth!” Whatever we are to do for the Lord we must do now. LESSON FIVE SIXTEEN INCENTIVES TO SOUL SAVING SERVICE (1) This is a Lost World. Men are by nature unfitted to dwell with God. (Rom. 3:10, 23) , “As it is written, There is none right eous, no, not one; “For all have sinned, and come short of thè glory of God.” (Rom. 8: 8)

The Book is full of promises And daily, as I read,

I find them all-sufficient For each and every need. A sinner, lost, I looked and found A promise there for me, And through the blood of Jesus Christ There came salvation free.
