Brianna Vela (session 12) - see Okuda Filho Lohan Vernet (special session/poster session) - Antrillo Logan Walker & Jarrius Burnett- “What You Can’t See (Visual Impairment)” (poster session) Visual impairment, a condition that encompasses a wide range of vision loss, has significant impacts on an individual's daily life and emotional well-being, highlighting the need for increased awareness and support for those affected by this condition. Visual impairment encompasses a variety of conditions that can affect an individual's ability to see, including partial or complete loss of vision, low vision, or color blindness. This condition can impact daily life and emotional well-being, but assistive technology, specialized training programs, and early detection and treatment can help individuals with visual impairment lead fulfilling and independent lives. Isabelle Wallace - “‘I’m not just a neat freak’: Living with OCD” (poster session) This project will examine the symptoms and treatments of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. This disorder causes those affected to have repeated thoughts, urges, or repetitive behaviors and can severely affect their daily lives. Treatments consist of medication and psychotherapy. There are no tests to determine if a patient has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The doctor asks the patient a series of questions that can help determine whether the patient has the disorder or not. My goal with this project is to educate others about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It is important for people to be educated about mental health and that all mental health is taken seriously. Kassidy Welch - “The Impact That Alcohol, Marijuana, and Smoking Have on the Well-being of College Students” (poster session) In colleges around the world, there is a growing concern about substances that impact a student’s well-being. This problem is caused by the use of mood and mind-altering substances. This study examined college students and how their well-being is impacted by the use of alcohol, smoking tobacco, marijuana, or a combination of these substances. A negative impact is predicted on a college student’s overall well-being if they use any combination of these substances. An assortment of varying questions pertaining to the student's usage was compiled into a survey. The survey questions were then emailed to students asking them various questions pertaining to their use and feelings involving these substances. The results from the survey were taken and analyzed looking for factors that impacted the student's overall well-being. The results can be beneficial to colleges in helping them in gaining knowledge involving students' usage of these substances and their well-being
