Motoring Offences and Penalty Points

Details of all motoring offences and penalty points must be brought to the immediate attention of your manager.

 Drivers convicted of endorsable offences, and not disqualified from driving, will incur penalty points which are endorsed on their licence  When 12 or more points are accumulated within 3 years, the driver will be disqualified  The 3 year period is a rolling term, i.e. it is measured on each location backwards from the date the last offence was committed  Courts disqualifying a driver for any specific reason may issue an order to undergo another driving test prior to re-issue of the licence  It should be noted that a driver can receive a direct licence disqualification for any offence without accumulating 12 penalty points

Legal Requirements

The holder of a driver’s licence must produce it on request to a police officer or traffic examiner. If the licence cannot be produced at the time of request, it must be produced to:

 The Police – at a police station of the drivers choice within 10 days  Traffic examiner – at the traffic area office within 10 days

Licence Renewal

An LGV Driving licence will normally be valid up to the holder’s 45 th birthday unless the applicant is over 40 in which case it will be valid for 5 years.

Thereafter, a medical and new licence is required every 5 years until the age of 65 from when it becomes renewable annually.

Whistl’s policy states that drivers with more than 6 penalty points or endorsements with DR ,DD, IN and or CD40 and above (Drink, Drugs, Dangerous Driving, Causing death by Careless Driving) codings shall not be offered employment. Driving Licences will be checked prior to the commencement of employment and subsequently every six months for full time employees and every month for Agency staff. In the event of an endorsement being incurred you must inform your manager immediately.

Note: It is your responsibility to notify your manager immediately of the following:

 Any endorsements placed on your driving licence and /or the withdrawal or your driving licence  Any medical condition which may inhibit your ability to drive
