Tachograph digital cards
A Tachograph chart or digital card can be used as evidence in court to determine prosecution. Should a Police officer or Authorised examiner confiscate a driver’s chart/card, the driver should request that an official receipt be given or obtain a signature on the following chart or print out should an official receipt be unavailable. Falsification of tachograph charts or digital data is easily detected Falsification or loss of tachograph charts or digital data is unlawful and will warrant disciplinary action

The Road Transport Directive
The road transport directive covers any mobile worker who is governed by EU drivers hours and regulations 561/2006 i.e. anyone who regularly drivers any goods vehicle greater than 3.5 tonnes. It does not replace Driver Hours Rules 561/2006. You cannot work more than 60 hours in a single week or more than an average 48 hours per week over a 26 week period Night time is any period between 00:00 – 04:00 and a night worker cannot work more than 12 hours in a 24 hour period You must tell your line manager in writing, of any time worked for another employer Periods of availability, breaks and rest do not count as working time
What is period of Availability?
Periods of availability cover periods other than breaks or rest. They are not periods of time where you are not involved in any work activity but you are getting paid. You must be told about these periods before they happen or as they are about to happen. You must also know the approximate length of the delay. This delay can be extended but only if you are told about the length of the delay.
