Over the July 4 weekend, everyone is in- vited to head over to Rockland,Wendover, Hawkesbury and other communities along the Ottawa River and enjoy as many activi- ties as possible offered up during the annual Ottawa River Festival. One of the Saturday highlights is the Powerboat Poker Run, which starts 10 :40 a.m. from the Hawkesbury Marina, located at 975 Main Street. other cars in the Rockland Ford Classic Poker Run are expected to arrive for their brief stop in L’Orignal around 11 a.m. and they will be parked on display along Court and Queen Streets in front of the Old L’Orignal Jail until it is time for drivers to head out on the highway again.

Hawkesbury goes Electric In Hawkesbury, the fun never stops during River Fest at Isle du Chenail. A mara- thon of electronic music at the centre there along with live performances at Confederation Park by Jason Thorne and FMX Metal Mulisha. For those who favour country over techno, head over the Parc des Pionniers, on Main Street, where a number of local performers will be on hand until 11:00 p.m. for some down-home toe-tapping pickin’-and-grin- nin’ fun. At the Déjà Vu resto bar the Poker Run cocktail hour is at 6:30 p.m. Something for everyone in Rockland The fun begins Thursday, July 2, at Parc Du Moulin with a Movie at the Park evening showing of DolphinTales 2 at 7 p.m. Thursday evening lovers of rock can enjoy the 1980s icon, Honeymoon Suite, who kicks it into gear on state at 8 p.m. Saturday roars ahead into the morning with a regional art show open at 11 a.m., playpark inflatable fun for children near the Parc DuMoulin playground area. The Majinx show takes the stage at 12 :45 p.m., and at five o’clock everyone’s appetite should be ready for supper under the tent courtesy of Cuisine Gimy. The evening finishes with laughter during Comedy Night at the Park with Jean-Thomas Jobin and François Massicotte. Sunday see teams of fire fighters from sta- tions all over Prescott-Russell and even from Ottawa take on the Fire Combat Challenge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Parc Du Moulin. Lovers of good food will enjoy what’s on the menu at this year’s Food Festival in Rockland, featuring special guest, Montréal’s own Chef Chuck Hughes. Please note that parking on site will not be available at Parc Du Moulin for the weekend of the River Fest. But there will be lots of par- king space available at the Clarence-Rockland Arena and at the Potvin Construction site just up the road along County Road 17 and a special regular shuttle service will be available to bring visitors to and from those parking sites to Parc Du Moulin.

For everyone in Rockland Saturday morning, there is the Rockland Ford Classics Poker Run, which rolls out at 8 a.m. fromRockland Ford on Laurier Street. Drivers get behind the wheels of Mustangs and other Ford classic cars in a regional rally run that includes riverbank tours on both sides of the Ottawa River fromMontebello, via the Cum- berland Ferry, then back across to Hawkes- bury, Chute-à-Blondeau, L’Orignal, Wendover and back down to Rockland, finishing at Parc Du Moulin. It’s a popular and profitable fun- draising event for breast cancer research and local community charity projects. For more information on arrival times, go to www.festivalprescott-russell.ca. Morning in Chute-à-Blondeau At Chute-à-Blondeau, the day begins with an outdoor picnic breakfast at the community centre, from 8 :30 to 11 :30 a.m. The local volunteer firefighters are in the kitchen, ser- ving up a traditional Eastern Ontario breakfast menu. Several playpark inflatables will be on-site for children to enjoy and there will also be face-painting fun. Along the river in Wendover At 10 a.m., spectators will enjoy wat- ching the powerboats race by on their way to Rockland. Later that afternoon at 4 p.m. a mini-festival explodes at the community centre with various children’s games and activities and music. TheWendover Optimist Club also fires up the barbecue grill at 11 a.m. Just in time for a quiet lunch before going back to theWen- dover boat launch to watch the powerboats head back downriver on their return run to Hawkesbury.
